When I first opened my firm, emails were unknown (clay tablets and cuneiform only).

Today, I had over one hundred emails either to my attention or where I was copied (since I require that every email be copied to me as well as the staff person receiving it, so that I have a clear picture of what is happening on every project.

I deal with these on a running basis through the day when I am able and check all before the next biz day begins. This is one of the reasons I spend the end of the afternoon with a fine red wine.

No one warned me. No one gave me the slightest hint when I graduated that my career would end with me working at a rapid fire pace addressing shit on the fly all day long.

Or that what I thought I would do is not what you do when you end up as the tete fromage in your own little pond.

Anyone else feeling this way?

I have some days when I seem to do little else other than read emails. As a general rule, if I'm only cc'd in, I don't bother with it.

No. When I was a program manager, I enjoyed delegation. It would have been unthinkable to be copied on every email between every team member. I was copied on emails between the Customer and Contracts or Engineering, so as to understand what was being said in representing us to them.

I would worry that not empowering delegates would lead to less growth in the team and less development of the decision making skills that lead to good leadership.

I now instruct people that if they have a matter of some consequence, they need to text me. If it is a matter that is best dealt with in an email or includes attachments they email me, but the email should be followed up with a text to inform me that its been sent. My partner recently told me that he read an article that stated that most people only read 10% of the emails they receive.

More and more every day. The new owners I work for like sending emails to everyone about everything.

During the last election time I was receiving over 100 emails a day, the bigger portion being requests for campaign contributions because I had contributed to a few and they passed my name along. Eventually it went to below 50 a day total emails and less than half were political. Now I have been getting about 70 a day total and this is my personal account. I have been retired for over ten years. I don't remember how many I got when I worked , but it was much less.

Most of my emails are junk Horny grandmas wanna fuck now, Silver dating, Milfs looking for dick, Unhappy with your small dick?, My talcum powder ovarian case, My uterine cancer hair straightener case, my hernia mesh lawsuit, My truvada stribild atripla Complera lawsuit,, American homeshield And my car warranty is past due!

I'm drowning in emails at work. My colleagues what me to help them do their jobs - free advice!
