Human filth, the case for extermination

the extreme right tows the line as far as they possibly can and the extreme left does the same,

They drag a rope??? That's what "tow a line" means: to drag a rope behind a watercraft.

If you mean they conform, that's "toe the line", as in line up for inspection with your toes precisely on the designated line so are you in precise compliance -- the way the military does it and how gym classes used to start out every day.

There's no double standard: accidents happen despite the best efforts to prevent them --but capital punishment is not an accident, it is a deliberate act fully intended to end a life. A government which blithely allows innocents to be put to death under its authority loses all moral authority -- it's why Thomas Jefferson said it is better for a thousand guilty to walk free than one innocent be punished (magnifying the maxim at the time that it was better for a hundred guilty to walk free than one innocent be punished).

The only moral capital punishment is that carried out by the hand of an intended victim.

But Jefferson was wrong, as simple as that. It is not better for our society to countenance murderers who have gotten away with murder.

And there most certainly is a double standard. Industry is designed to produce cars, roads, buildings, factories, and all other systems, with inherent failures resulting in many thousands of casualties EVERY YEAR. These are deemed as acceptable deaths in order for society to have transportation, manufactured goods, whatever. The justice system is a designed means of law enforcement. That a statistically miniscule number of miscarriages of justice occur is true of every single justice system in the world. But we imagine we have somehow made ours better by pretending it is better for a man to live out a hellish life in a brutal and unmanaged prison system than to die quickly. How merciful, no?

There are MANY safeguards built into the system, but all systems fail, so "blithely" isn't a description at all of our system's attempts to ensure justice is done.

Your assertion that a victim is the only arbiter of his own murder is nonsensical. It's murder. He's dead. Advocating for a shootout or vigilanteism isn't a system of justice, it's dog-eat-dog.

I meant they push their ideology. I knew there was something amiss with "tow the line" but at least now I can spend the rest of my life hoping for a chance to use the term properly now that I know what it means,

^ I wasn't being snarky! I like to learn from mistakes.

What you intended with your original post was clear, so the correction seemed unnecessary, but glad there is harmony nonetheless. I'll look elsewhere for facetious retorts.
