It'll settle in for both of you.

I'm so pleased this went well for you, as I've heard horror stories.

You can always point her to www.pflag.org It's an excellent resource.

How do you think your father will react?

Congratulations Darkness. I don't think you could have set the stage or broken the news to your mother better. It is natural she had questions and had concerns she may have done something to make you this way. My mother asked the same question

In time I hope you're able to have the same conversation with your father. You'll find your relationships will strengthen

Again, congrats!

:=D: (*8*)

Well done, it is a great first step, and I am happy that it went well for you both.

I think the questions are normal, and my Mum was the same, let it sink in and asked a few questions and then let it sink in and asked a few more etc. Just try and answer them as honestly and openly as you can. I does take a bit of time, and it is a shock for the parent, but I always thought of it, as I had know since I was born and slowly came to terms with it, you can't expect it to sink in with your Mum in 10 minuites, so just answer the questions (I got some very weird ones, strange what people want to know!)

Well done again, and do you have any plans to tell your friends next?

Congratulations!!

Is good to see it wasn't very shocking for she.

Sometimes parents think they did soemthing 'wrong' and that's the reason of being gay. Talk her, explain that it's normal and natural, sexual orientation is set before birth*, so that's no one's fault, that will ease her worries. Tell her that you're happy with it, and that you told her beacause you care, and want to be honest and because you love her.

*according to the latest science research.

I know this was a huge first step for you, Darkness. Congratulations! Keep in mind, you don't have to come out to everyone at once. Take your time and let others know when you feel it's right. One thing is certain. You will find nothing but support from other Jubbers here, so take the time to read what others have to say. I wish you the best! (*8*)

This book will help answer many questions for you and your mom.

I am proud of you darkness. it takes a lot of guts. you have come so far in such a small time. coming totally out takes time. and everyday you will become more comfortable with it. it is compleatly normal for your mom to think she did it. i think all mom's do that when there child comes out to them. as for your father. i am totally out of the closet to everyone except my dad. i have no plans on telling him. but it does make it harder to be me. and be comfortable, for fear he will find out.

this is a long road, and i wont lie its a hard one. but i know you can do it. and you know that if you ever need anything we are all here for you.

Well you're the best to know if your dad should know or not. Maybe your mom might have some insight.

Oh, and I almost forgot:

(!) (!) (!)

man i luv those guys

Wow! I remember you my friend... and I have to say I am very proud of you. I think the way you handled yourself and the kind way in which you helped your mother deal is something to be commended. Don't be surprised if your mom has more questions, this is something big to have to digest. But I think with what you've told us she will be fine in the long run. I hope that the same can be said of your father. Thank you for sharing your experience with us and I hope to hear more! Best of luck to you!

This has to be one of the most touching posts in my recent memory on this site. I am truly honored to have read it, and you are truly a very special person. I am very happy for you and very proud of you and your mother, and wish you all the best in life. As far as your father is concerned, please understand it is his upbringing that makes him think the way he thinks. You have the right to live your life the way you want to and as long as you respect him and love him just for the fact that he is your father, you should have no regrets whatsoever. Whether he will come to accept you as you are if and when he knows, that will depend on his integrity as a human being and the depth of his love for you. In the meantime, you don't have to share this aspect of your life with him if you are aware he will not understand it. All the best!

Congratulations, Darkness. That was a huge step. I'm glad things went the way you had planned.

PFLAG has some resources online that might help to clarify some of her questions at this stage:

Congrats again.

Thats really cool...my mom suspects me of being bi ...I think she heard through a family member I thought I could trust and she cried all night...:/ oh well nothing I can do..I've never done anything with either sex so lol

Congratulations! You have come a long way in the last six weeks. I'm very proud of you! For most people coming out is a process, that occurs over times, starting with those you feel will be most accepting. I'm sure you will come out to your dad when the time is right.

Congrats to you! I can only imagine your fear and trepidation. . .I say imagine for I am not there in my journey, I am pretty sure my mom has her suspicions, but I am in no hurry, and I sometimes have attraction to girls, and I guess, lets keep em guessing right? As for your dad, I feel the same way, I know I will never be able to tell him, it would really upset him and it would be bad for his career-he is a pretty well known televangilist and religion professor.

I applaud you, thanks for sharing your courage it gives encouragement.
P.S. I have two gay uncles, who never came out until after my grandpa died, when they told me, they said that my grandma was surprisingly okay with it, and said something like "well I guess it is pretty obvious now that you think of it, you never had girlfriends, you make a lot of money yet still have to have roommates, and you have so many gay friends. I guess I should have known." and that was it. I think mom's kind of always know

Darkness,

I was about to go to bed and I read your post and I am very happy for you! (*8*) made my night!

Don't fret about your mom's reactions after she came to your room - I believe that is normal and the best thing you could do is guide her to PFLAG resources that will help her understand things better. You truly are lucky to have a mother like her. She'll only love you more from now on now that she knows you this much more.

This was worth biting into my Golden Girls rerun for ..|

Well done! I'm so happy for you! Little steps, man. Little steps. :)

¡qué lindo! i'm really happy for you and very proud of you darkness!
(*8*)(*8*)(*8*)(*8*)

congratulations on that big step. and it's wonderful that your mom took it much better than expected.

keep us posted! (*8*)

Hello Darkness,
I've read your thread and I would like to say to you, that I feel that you are a very kind person and you did well by talking to your mother.
Reading what you've said about your mother reaction makes me believe she loves you very much and that maybe she is not very well informed about what is homossexuality. Makes me believe she is afraid for your future, because as we all know, to love someone with the same gender is very complicated even in the new century.

I truly hope you can talk to her a bit more about your personal life, so she can see that there is nothing different about loving a man or a woman. It's just the same thing.

Can I say that I drop some tears of my eyes while I was reading you first post?

My parents are strict, religious, and homophobic. So I'd never be able to tell them. I'm happy for you though.
