  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I didn't know thanksgiving is based on discrimination

this is AmeriKKKa, 90% of our entire national identity, heritage and history is a celeberation of violent imperialism and slaughter of brown people. Am I still allowed to talk about this guys or is CRT banned and I'm finna be in jail? Cuz that's where the anti-fascist, anti-communist, anti-govt control, pro-free speech patriots want us to go. ](*,)

I smile and politely tell my family Happy Thanksgiving! because I don't have the heart to break it to em, and black people love any excuse to scarf down their fried pig nipples and smothered turkey necks. But everybody else gets the speeches about violent white nationalism.

Aaw shut up and stop bullying others into your gross traditions! I would also invite you to have a conscience.

*at least celebrate it quietly with your loved ones, shoving it in someone else's face kinda makes it seem like it's less about the family time more for metaphorically stomping all over the graves of indigenous peoples.

Every year I flat out tell people why I do not celebrate thanksgiving or even acknowledge it.

I have it down to less than 30 seconds now.

Celebrate what? The Native Americans shared their food - we ate it then killed and raped them and stole their land. Have some fucking turkey and pie? - no thanks - hard pass.

Yeah, its one thing to participate but to be so cavalier and enthusiastic about it is really disturbing on multiple levels. Its a racist dogwhistle if I ever seen one.

I have to say that I am a little relieved that the Canadian Thanksgiving in October is not directly related to an overtly racist mythology built around Pilgrims celebrating the subjugation of indigenous people...but more to Anglo/German harvest festivals...but even now...I have a terrible feeling that the pumpkin pie we eat in mid-October somehow has a direct line to residential schools.

Whats past is prologue you can't change it you can only learn from it! Canceling it changes nothing! You can only move forward.

Thank heavens we don't have thanksgiving in the UK. All I have to do is ignore the religious aspect of Christmas.

Learning from it and painting over it with pretty colors are polar opposites. How do you learn from the past whilst simultaneously taking out all the bad stuff to make it more digestible? Don't answer that it's a rhetorical question.
