I've met many great guys through jub, and I'm happy about that.

Some of the jubbers I've met talk to me on Yahoo IM.... that is fine too.

Often though I get Yahoo messages or jub pms where the person says 'I'm bored'..

That drives me nuts... Like I'm the last resort. Here we live in a world with cable tv, video games, places like jub that are filled with interesting people to talk with, and I get a message saying 'I'm bored'..... like I"m supposed to be the person to suddenly cure their boredom.

Have any of you had this happen? I try to be a good guy about the situation.... but if a person is bored there is not really that much to chat with about is there?

How would you suggest I reply to that opening statement.

um "i'm bored" means they have free time to hook up and have sex if you are keen.

How about, try turning off the computer and going out into the real world.

"You're talking to ME and you're BORED?! What AM I? Chopped liver? You swine, don't EVER message me again as I'm blocking AND deleting you from my contact list."

Or

"And what do you expect ME to do about it?"

Or

"I'm not going to be entertaining you for FREE again."

Or

"There's NO way I'm camming with you right now."

Or THIS old chestnut.

"Obviously you've mistaken me for someone who GIVES a damn."

:)

I love it! I think I've used the last one too many times.

I got rid of my cellphone for precisely this same reason.

"Friends" would call me up - not because they wanted to talk or catch up, but because they were stuck in traffic, or waiting in line at the grocery store, and dear GOD were they bored. Lex...do something. Save me from boredom.

"Fuck you. (click)"

That doesn't surprise me in the least.

Maybe you can go on a gay website and announce you've got a stiffy.

Oh, wait, you've done that. Well, now just wait for the offers to roll in.

People often use the word "bored" when what they actually mean is "lazy". Unless you're trapped in a line or something like that, there's almost always something constructive to do. They just don't want to do any of them.

It's funny, I actually avoid calling people for fear of them thinking that I'm only calling them because I'm bored...when the sad truth is, the only time I ever think of calling people is when I'm bored. Sitting in traffic with my blinged-out cellie winking at me, I think "I could call So-and-so...but then, what right have I to interrupt his day just because I'm tired of this CD and have nothing better to occupy my mind?" And then I don't call So-and-so. And then I don't talk to So-and-so for so long that he forgets I exist.

It's sad, really.

But to the topic, only a boor would admit to being bored. The polite thing to do is imply that you are taking time out of your busy and fulfilling life in order to touch bases with someone because he is such a delight and a treasure.

If I'm in the middle of watching a TV program, or playing sports, or writing music, I'm not gonna call someone. I call someone because I'm bored, yes. Consider it a compliment to your nature, that people think talking to you will get rid of boredom. They call you because they think the conversation will be interesting.

I call someone because I'm bored, in the same way that I initiate an interesting activity when I'm bored, to liven things up.

Sheesh.

On an entirely different note, I now want to go play board games because of this thread.

>>>Being bored doesn't always equate to being lazy or being a boring person. There are times when you're stuck and you can't find something to do and what is available to you isn't what you're in the mood for. Never ceases to amaze me how high horsed some people on are on this board.

Maybe I'm just simple-minded, but I can't remember the last time I was "bored". Even waiting at the doctor's office for an hour, I don't feel bored - I have no trouble keeping myself occupied. Perhaps you're above the horrible mundanities of life, and thus can be surrounded by books, TV, and a computer with an internet connection, and still be crashingly bored. In which case, all I can say is - "sucks to be you".

>>>Just sometimes there are times when the normal things I like to do don't excite my mind and I get bored.

This happens to me, too. Well, the first part, anyway. I'll think "Hm, I'd rather not do that." Then I go in search of something else.
