I know you are probably feeling awkward, but I don't see anything wrong with what you said. If you don't want to make him think you regret it, and yet are afraid to try it again but want to, maybe you can say something like...."Are you ok with what happened"? or "I hope you are not uncomfortable about what happened, because I don't regret a thing". I don't know, but you can just state what you feel about it and see what he has to say.
 
I would agree with the others above and say be patient and give it some time...

Is he older than you or younger? If he's older, you can always ask him for sexual advice and that may help break the ice a little. Or, try to "engineer" some situations where he might walk in on you jerking off, watching porn, clothed but hard, etc., so that you can see how he responds to those situations...
