FYI - Ctrl +0 will reset screen to the original settings, as opposed to the +/- keys increasing/decreasing incrementally.
My new laptop has this "handy new functionality" (read: it sometimes drives me F'n nuts!): Sometimes, as I draw my finger across the mousepad, instead of just moving the cursor. which is ALL I am TRYING to do, it will decide that I am really trying to Zoom in or out and do that function for me -- I know what you mean about having a gigantic screen all of a sudde -- or teeeny tiny letters, too.
I am of an age where I need reading glasses - sometimes, If they're not handy, I will zoom in to try and get enough clarity to read w/out them. lol
(Limited success).
In any event -- the functions are also in the view zoom drop down - at least in Firefox.

if you have a wheel mouse, then holding in the Ctrl key and the using the wheel will also increase or decrease the size.

Could be fun trying to control him, anyway.
