College ones, mostly. I think it's because they're amateurs, just young people who like to sing. Or it seems that way.

I love choral music in general I guess, but something about young male voices strikes a particular chord.

You know, I've known abotu them for the longest, but I've never actually listened to them. I'll have to check them out on YouTube.

I Used To Sing In A Boy's Choir - oooh la la. Now I've Graduated To More Sophisticated Tastes. My FAV Men's Choir Group. I Adore This Performance. Better Than The Cinematic Version - IMHO.

Wow! Heh! I really enjoyed that. Mostly I've liked the amateurs, but this was cool!

Since you were in a Boy's Choir, what do you think of Libera?

In A Word - Ethereal.

They Have An Almost Enya-like Quality To Them. It's Nice To Hear The Notes I Can No Longer Hit - LOL!

BTW - The First Vid You Posted (Williams College Octet) Was AWESOME! Thanks Ever So Much For Heads Up.

I'm so glad you like them!

Speaking of Enya, have you heard their recording of Orinoco Flow? It's pretty unbelievable. It's on YouTube, but since they're kids I won't post it here.

Oh--and did you happen to catch them giving tribute to Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys on the Kennedy Center Honors program a few years ago? If not, they did Love and Mercy, accompanied by a larger choir for most of it. You can find that on YouTube as well.

Some have said that technically it wasn't their best performance, but surely the poignancy and magic of the moment made that irrelevant, if true. Personally, I thought it was magic.

Glad you enjoyed the W.C. Octet! My favorite out of the first group I posted is probably "Carry On, Wayward Son".

Oh my goodness! Libera's rendition of Orinoco Flow sent shivers up my spine!

As For This Group - I'll Admit I'm A Tad Bit Biased Since They Are Representing My Alma Mater.

That video didn't work for me for some reason, but I'll look it up as soon as YouTube is done with their maintenance. And as for the UW part, is that Wisconsin, Washington, or what? I'm just wondering if I should razz you for being a Badger.

The male soloist for Blackbird looked like he was going to throw up! He sounded really pushed (I'm a vocalist, so I can say this).

Haha! I'm not vocally trained, so I can't see what you see, but he does seem nervous.

Oh my goodness! Libera's rendition of Orinoco Flow sent shivers up my spine!

Yup, they're pretty amazing.

LOL! Considering You're From Gopher Country - And That Your Golden Boys Of Big 10 Football Fame Got Spanked By My Boys In Red Last Year To Walk Away With The P.B. Axe - Out Of Neighborly Consideration I'll Simply Say The 'W' In UW Ain't Washington That I'm Talking About. GO BADGERS! :p

I Think The Gauntlet Has Been Thrown. :D Shall We Say Dueling Choir Groups At 20 Paces?

LOL!

Well you-- well we--you . . .

GAAAAAAH!!! Give us our axe back!!!! lol

Just you wait until we get into our new stadium! We'll git you yet!

Okay y'all, here's another male choir I saw on YouTube, part of a contest called Last Choir Standing (of which I'd never heard). I'm not really sure about it. I wasn't feeling it during some parts, not because of the voices necessarily, but because I'm so used to it being a solo piece. But then there are some moments, colors I hear, that are unique to men harmonizing, where I just go "Wow. Whoa." And moments of beautiful power. But I'm still not sure.

Okay, well let me know what you think:

The Choice Of Song Is Just As Important As The Voices That Sing It. In This Case It Was One Bad Choice. I Don't Think It Took Advantage Of The Talent (imho). Did They Go On To Win?

Apparently they did win, yes. Over a choir I thought was better, truth be told, but maybe that's just because the choir who came in second place performed the most well-known section of Carmina Burana, and I have a weak spot for that.

I looked up Only Men Aloud for other songs, and this one was much more to my liking for them. They start singing at about 3:35.

I personally love singing more than most anything and it brings me great joy. I hope you all feel the same.

^^
Sweeeet. Thx For Sharing. The Conductor Reminded Me Of Captain Kangaroo. lol!

I Must Admit They Aren't Much To Look At - But They Are Wonderful To Hear. I Wonder How They Would Sound Doing Traditional Gospel Hymns? If You Find Any Please Do Post Them. :)

The Captain Kangaroo thing made me laugh so hard I choked! Thank you for that! LOL!! Yes, he does remind one of Captain Kangaroo.

I'll look around for Only Men Aloud doing gospel, but I don't know how much there'll be. I think they're Welsh, and their musical lexicon is probably not all that conversant in American black music or derivatives. But I'll look. Motown's gotten everywhere, afterall. Maybe gospel music has as well!

I have to disagree though, that they aren't much to look at. Some of them are pretty adorable, in my opinion! But maybe that's because they're talented. Talent often makes an otherwise funny-looking guy attractive to me.

Oh OF COURSE! Thank you for posting that! Being a Minnesotan, I am well familiar with the St. Olaf Choir. Great to just hear the men on this one! Congratulations! This has been a wonderful choir as long as I've known about them. I've tuned in to Public Radio to hear y'all's concerts before, and keep meaning to attend one sometime, but tickets are often hard to get.

And yes, hearing beautiful vocal music is ecstasy for me. I'm glad you enjoy making it for us!

Since We're On The Gospel Train . . .

Cool! Thanks for making it for us! They were gettin' down!

Beautiful music on this thread. I love singing and have been doing so since my fourth grade teacher heard me singing in the classroom. My aunt took me to "The Sound of Music" and the rest is history. I am now the Executive Director of a chorale group in Philly.

Awesome! Anything we can see on YouTube?

^^I'm sorry - not good with the techno stuff. Sorry.

And I suppose you can't tell me which one it is because then people would know too much of your bid'ness? Which is understandable, don't get me wrong.

One of my favorite parts of choir performances is watching the director. The hand movements and facial expressions are fascinating to me.

^^^ Two observations. The Chairman is gorgeous, and I usually don't like facial hair. And two, the conductor's hands are serious! Well, three observations: I like the newness of them. You can tell they're still feeling around for themselves, and it's almost like some of these guys really haven't ever sung with anyone before. It's cool to see and hear about how they're coming together. And starting at about 2:20 is really, really nice.

Thanks for posting that!

These guys below are a little rough too, or maybe it's the acoustics, but I really liked this:

^^^Oh my god. Awesome contributions to the thread! Thank you!

That Basso Profundo one reminded me of Tibetian (?) throat-singing almost.

I find I really like a lot of music that comes from Orthodox tradition.
