I Need an Anti-Virus

NOD32 is by far the best anti-virus solution

I tried to download the trial (which I couldn't which makes me think I have a computer virus), but used another compuet. Tried to install but entire computer froze up. Any ideas?

Malware Bytes? If that doesn't run either, rename it to .com instead of exe.

well for my money STOP SIGN is the best. Always stops any virus, Trojans etc and always scans your computer

If you think you already have a virus it is no use installing and doing a scan chances it wont even find the virus. You should do an external scan of the drive. An online virus scan should do the trick. Once you have removed the virus/Malware/Trojan then install Anti Virus, SpyBot and Spy Blaster. Update them and keep them updated then scan regularly.

Micro Trend offers a free online Scan and i'm sure others can give you information about more free services like this

mine is KAV (Kaspersky Anti Virus), it works just fine... like it better than AVG or Norton

KAV is what I've used for a couple of years. Norton and McAfee were nothing but problems. I have just the Anti Virus, not the suite. For a firewall, I use Microsoft.

Also watch out for this one called Home Antivirus, I think it's spyware or something. When I had problems with my computer, it kept popping up to buy it. It even stopped what I was doing with Internet Explorer to force me to the site. AVG showed Home Antivirus with the scan. Also all the google search results for Home Antivirus are about removing it.

Yes, that plus 1000 variants are going around at the moment. Anti Virus 2009, Anti Virus XP, Anti Virus Guard 2009 etc etc there are so many of them around. If you don't remember installing something and it pops up to tell you to buy it. Don't! We are getting so many people who are being fooled by it.

I just had some wierd issues with AVG. For some reason me internet browser wasn't letting me go anywhere on the internet. I uninstalled AVG and restarted my laptop. Now I can surf the web again. Anyone else had that problem with AVG???

Only ever seen that problem with Norton. Even if it's no longer installed.

I never had that problem with AVG, though AVG kept on saying iTunes was a virus which I knew was wrong!

@OP
If your looking for an AV I would try Avast free, seems to use less resources and dosn't interfere with what ever you are doing at the moment when it scans. So, I recommend Avast. :)

for spy ware? well I've used Adwear, but seems pointless to download when you have Free AV's that will search spy wear now.

AVAST is so easy on the system you don't even know it's there.......TRY it......but save the installer, go offline and uninstall your current one first.

I had avast and it was so annoying that I deleted it and left my pc unprotected because it pissed me off.

The other day I installed the AVG thingy and it is working fine and it has made me pc go a bit faster.

The 'virus database has been updated' sign that popped up every 5 minutes on avast along with a guy screaming really pissed me off. Every time I logged on it told me to upgrade stuff too.
