I never thought I would do it

I believe you can make your own extract with a bottle of vodka and a few vanilla beans. I'd like to give it a try sometime, but not in the near future. Amazon has the beans.
I was given some beans. I may try. Some prestige brands use bourbon.

I'm not surprised by that. I had thought when I started researching that there could be confounding factors. And I'm definitely not surprised by the thought that one can make an argument for using artificial extracts for many things, because they are cheap, and saving the real extract for times when the user perceives an advantage.
Similar to olive oil use.

Vodka, seems to me, would provide a good amount of alcohol without contributing other flavours such as cane syrups and charred oak.

Anyway, I hope it works out for you and that you'll share what you learn.

Back in my grocery store days, during the summer, I really enjoyed going into the walk-in freezer to gather up stock to put out in the freezers.
When I was a cook for assisted living I would go into the huge walk in freezer in the summer.

Sit on a milk crate for 15 minutes with a spoon eating the eggnog ice cream out of a 5 gallon carton. :-$

OK, so rereading the thread, I got off my ass and found three clean jars that had no smell when I opened them. and put one bean in each, cut into four pieces, and slit down the middle to encourage dissolving/infusing. When I check them later, if I need to scrape them out, I will.

One jar has a couple of ounces of vodka, another has dark rum, and the third, 12-yr.-old black label whiskey (I don't have any bourbon.)

Will check in week after swirling them when I check on them.

18 years old working at a convenience store, we would hide the damaged beer cans in the walking in cooler so we could drink them on a hot day. That’s why we were hiding in the cooler

After I got hurt I spent my breaks in the freezer laying on the floor. It was the only way to get through my shifts.

I saw vanilla beans on the clearance shelf of a grocery store last week. Two itsy bitsy beans in a regular spice bottle. The price, however, even with it being a clearance item, wasn't itsy bitsy.
