I am upgrading my phone from a regular cell phone, one that makes a phone call and thats pretty much it!

I dont know whether to go with the I Phone or Motorola Droid, cant believe how complicated mobile phones became over the last few years.

I am looking for something that is pretty fast and responsive, wifi (i guess would be usefull) and most importantly able to make a phone call.

Anyone got any advice, experience with the I Phone and Droid so I can make the best decision possible.

Thanks as always!

As for my opinion, it depends on who your carrier is. If you are with AT&T, go with the iphone, it is just a cool phone. There is one bad thing about the iphone though, and that's AT&T. Their cell coverage sucks, and I know you made mention about the ability to make a phone call...that is the one thing the iphone doesn't do well, specifically because of the poor coverage AT&T gets. Yes, those verizon commercials are accurate - don't believe me - just watch AT&T's commercials with Luke Wilson and really really listen to what he is actually saying as AT&T can not refute verizon's ad campaigns which show how little coverage there actually is, all they can say are things like how AT&T covers 97% of all American's (who can use the AT&T service only in very limited areas, that bit of info is left out of their commercials) or how you can browse the web and make a call at once on the iphone (again, only in very limited areas - but the AT&T commercials just ignore that little tidbit of info). If you want first hand experience of AT&T's coverage, I switched to verizon because I could not get AT&T coverage in my house. On the street was okay, but not inside my home. And I do not live in some back woods part of the country, I live in one of the biggest cities in the United States and I couldn't get coverage! So, go with the iphone, but be prepared to use it in very limited areas, and expect coverage failures the depend upon 20 or so feet of movement (roughly the distance to my street), and that's in major cities.

Now that I am done ranting, I would tell you that if the iphone was available on a different carrier, I would choose that one, but since it is with AT&T, the droid on a different carrier than AT&T is your best bet!

I am partial to Android in some form. The Motorola Droid or Google Nexus One or HTC Incredible are all good.

The iPhone is a great phone, but it is a closed system. You can only run the apps that Apple lets you run. You can only use your phone in the ways Apple lets you use it. You can only use your phone on the carrier Apple tells you to use. And it still can't multitask or play Flash videos. And the new iPhones will use those stupid micro SIM cards, so that you can't swap your SIM card out into other devices (isn't that the whole reason for having SIM cards???).

The future is freedom. The future is open. The future is Android.

i agree with the above regarding the iphone. neat device but too many limitations. i'd go with one of the droids. they only complaint i've heard about droid is the one with the keyboard...apparently it's hard to use if you have large hands/fingers.

Since Apple appointed themselves supreme arbiter of what is right and wrong in terms of which applications you can have on your phone, i'd say you have more options with a commodore 64. (hence, i'd choose any other fancy phone).

I wanted the Droid but I am in mid contract with Verizon and they wanted to charge me $579, so I said to hell with them.

I then looked at At&T and looked at a variety of phones, I decided against the I Phone and went with the LG Expo, seems to be a strong phone, gloabal ready, 1 ghhz processor, wifi, touch screen........ I got it for free with wirefly, not even a shipping charge, will be here by Monday, I have to pay $120.00 to Verizon for coming off contract but oh well...

I have always had good service with Verizon, I hope At&T is not as bad as a lot of people say, I have asked a few friends who have AT&T and they said in our area it was pretty good.

I'd hold of for the Iphone 4g, the new one should be out in the months to come, then compair them. I am a iphone user, i love my phone and i personally didn't like the look of the droid but each to there own i guess.

Iphones generally rock though, couldn't live without mine now.

Deleted post, Jub had a funny 5 minutes and would not post previous comment and when i did this one, it turned up again. Got stuck on a page with a circle jerk advert on it, i'm straight so i didnt find it too intresting lol

my contract for my iphone 3gs 32gb is upin decemeber, gutted, want a 4g one, now!!!!

I don't do apple because of their closed system. A friggin battery cost $99 and they have to put it in. All apps have to be approved by apple. Grindr, the gay hookup app, had difficulty getting approved. I went with android and the samsung moment. They have encountr, similiar to Grindr, but it's such a new platform there are not that many guys yet but it's growing every day. I purchased two batteries from Hong Kong for $3.95 including shipping. There are apps and accessories being added every day. The moment has wifi built in camera, camcorder etc. It's a very cool phone. Check out the droid platform and compare to iphone before you jump in.
