I thought that it was over with, when I retired from toolmaking 7 years ago I thought that I was finished with incompetent people that had to be re taught on a daily basis. Mind you, it wasn't my job but yet they came. I was viewed as a "number head", the guy that could figure it out... somehow. I had guys that made $5.00 per hour more than me enlist my aid. At first it was an ego boost, me of all people, the guy that had been declared a "retard" (their words... not mine) and finally sent to reform school because I didn't "fit in". It became old and tiresome after a while, even the foreman who was a self proclaimed "engineer" (turned out he had no degree) needed my help at times. Then there were the tools, I drove old clunkers for years and invested in tools, tools that were borrowed by those whom drove nice cars. I was glad to leave.
Now I cook, clean, administer insulin to my wife and meet her daily needs as well as run a business. So, I handle it, I get tired but I do what needs to be done. What gets to me are situations such making an appointment for an eye exam. Seems like an easy thing you would think, call, make an appointment and show up, I have insurance that affords $200. per anum
for corrective lenses and frames. The appointment was for this past Saturday, I received a call on Friday and was told that they couldn't get approval from my insurance. Today I called my ins. company and had no problem getting through to them, turned out that their web site wasn't working well. My eye docs office could have called, could have kept the appointment that I made over a month ago, but... what the hell... web sites down! God forbid that one would have the tenacity to see a problem through to the end, that might take brain function... can't have that.
This isn't about a fast food worker messing up an order, it's about a professional health care worker, albeit an ancillary worker not applying any effort to their job.
