So I finally did it, I worked up enough courage to tell my parents that I was gay and they both looked at me and told me not to take this the wrong way but it's about time. I guess from what they told me they always knew but weren't going to approach me on it until I was ready to say it out loud.

I'm really glad that they are okay with it and now my dad was laughing at me cause he could now give any guy I bring home The Back 40 talk that I've been subjected to once. :D The only question they asked was "Are you still a virgin?" to which I told them changing the subject !oops! my sex life isn't up for discussion. It feels really great to be out, like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

Now comes the greatest challenge telling my mom I hate her quinoa (Vegetarian food)

Congratulations! I know guys who are in their 50's, never married, never are seen with a woman yet tiptoe around, tell the lies, afraid to come out to family as if everyone hadn't suspected years ago. I told my parents and siblings when I was 25 and there was no big surprised reaction even though I was athletic, had dated many woman since junior high, and did not fit any stereotype. Most surprised was my brother who is only a year younger than I. Maybe it was because we had double dated and attended the same parties over the years. His reaction was, "You were the brother I loved before you told me and you and I haven't changed in the past few minutes....you will always be my brother."

Thanks, I know what you mean I'm 20 and kinda athletic, geeky and have dated a few girls but they never did it for me. In fact telling my parents I was gay was easier than telling them I failed a class in my semester at college.

Good for you, RainGuy! I'm so ready to tell my parents, but I can't seem to find the right time to do so. I want to be able to sit them both down and tell them, but it's always the one is home and the other one isn't. My brother and sister know and it felt great when I told them!

Good for you Rainy and pats to your parents for being understanding. Good luck with your life from here on - happy days and nights lol. Cheers, G :)

Some things are best left unsaid, don't mention the vegetarian food, ever!

It may have accidentally come up while she was cooking dinner....It just kinda slipped out that I didn't overly care for vegetarian food.

Thanks everyone the only problem I had last night was from my sisters boyfriend. He was all full of himself saying he was scared I'd like him in that way and I told him nope still hate, your dating my younger sister he was pretty quiet for the rest of the night.

I have been a veggie since the 1980's so please feel free to send me your mum's unwanted cooking in the form of food parcels.
One thing I found after I came out was that a lot of straight guys were afraid you WOULD NOT find them attractive, they have such fragile ego's. I think that is probably your sister's boyfriends problem. Straight guys who have their heads in a together place wouldn't have blinked at your big reveal.
I am really happy that the experience has been a good one for you.

Sure I'll send all the unwanted vegetarian food to you......Yeah his ego was shot but everyone else was okay with it and said so long as I was happy and didn't get myself hurt.

But I'm a big boy and can take care of myself.....Now my mom is being funny saying the first guy to break my heart gets his legs broken and buried in the back 40. :D

Congratulations. Your sister's boyfriend sounds like a treat. Good luck and best wishes. Nice way to start the new year.

whats "the back 40"

Congratulations. Your sister's boyfriend sounds like a treat. Good luck and best wishes. Nice way to start the new year.

The back 40 refers to forests, meadows and other areas that are generally unpopulated by humans.

Thanks the new year is starting out great now that I don't have to hide anything anymore....And really he's just a little too young for me, he's 15 going on 16 and I'll be 21 in August. I'm the oldest.

I've only had one problem recently and I resolved it quickly. There was a girl who was pissed because she liked me and thought I liked her so she assumed I was just to shy to ask her out. Everything is fine now she knows I'm not interested.
