Is it REALLY worth it? I'm kind of overly discerning about music, and I'm really wary of peoples reccomendations on this site as my tastes differ so far from them normally.

I stand corrected...As long as I can just listen, I'm pretty damn happy with his music (in other vids he has a habit of smirking whenever he comes across a clever lyric and that kind of annoys me).

Here it's really less so, and more on the "silly" lyrics. It's more his video for Soda Shop (which he opens by ranting and raving about IMDB requiring people to register for "adult content" before viewing any info on Shortbus). Here, it's "I'm not being too serious", elsewhere, it's more "goddamn I am SO clever".

I'm oversensitive to smug and probably overreacting.

Jay has some absolutely beautiful lyrics, and he can really squeeze a lot of meaning out of a simple phrase. Some of his words break my heart, and the way he sings them makes me want him to do it again and again.

Plus, at this point in his career, he writes you back if you write him on myspace and tell him how much his music means to you. Twice.

I cant wait for his CD in July! As long as we're on the topic of smirking, I actually like that a lot, it's one of his signitures, along with his unique music style, that's what makes him stand out from the new crop of gay singer-songwriters.

Do you feel that way about this video too? Every time he smirks in the above video it just seems to be his way of acknowledging that the lyric or the idea behind the lyric is a little silly and the fact that he doesn't take it too seriously, I think, makes it that much more endearing.
