I want to get an Iphone 3gs

I want to get an Iphone 3gs but I am concerned about the battery. I want my iphone to replace my mp3 player. I've used a zune for years and loved it except the software. I did not hate it but would rather use Windows Media Player. Ayway I want to get an Iphone 3gs 32 GB and use it as my all in one device but I am worried about the battery. Can I get a about a full day out of the device using it as an music player, phone, gps and mutiple apps without it dying on me in the middle of the day?I'm not a big fan of Itunes but will use it for the sake of convience. Or should get the Iphone 3gs and get a dedicated music player such as Zune HD when it comes out?Any advice, insights and opinions will greatly aprreciated.

My iPhone 3G will last a full day, with a good mix of surfing, music, video, and app usage. Playing music uses hardly any battery, so you'll be safe there. Surfing (especially on 3G) will drain your battery quickly, but I'm still able to manage a day's worth even using it a lot. Perhaps the biggest battery drain is going to be playing video, and using apps that have an always on network connection. (there are a few, and they will kill your battery in a few hours) Generally though, expect a full day from normal use.

As for buying an additional media player instead of an iPhone; since I've gotten my iPhone I rarely use my iPod Classic anymore. Sure, I can hold about 10 times as much music on the Classic, but using the iPhone is just easier. Its always with me, and I can always add stuff onto it if I'm in a particular musical mood. If you're leaning towards a standalone player, though, definitely go for the Zune HD or Touch.
 
^Same here. Unless you're using a lot of connectivity apps (internet or bluetooth stuff) or using apps that keep the screen on for long periods (like videos or games) the battery should cope well with a day full of iPod and phone functions. My 3G is a year old, I use it constantly, and I've yet to get less than a day from the battery.
 
Thanks for the advice everybody. I've decided when I can upgrade I will get the Iphone 3gs. Since I can play music, use the gps and talk without it dying on me. I will get this and just carry one device around in my pocket and leave my mp3 player at home. Thanks again guys!

I've had the 3G and now the 3GS, and the battery life is definitely worse on the 3GS. In my experience it does usually make it a full day, but its frequently very low at the end. If you do more than a modest amount of calling or anything with the screen on, it can go out quicker.

That said I still wouldn't have any other phone. Just get a car charger in case you run out while away.
 
I dont have a car. Im in college and I'll have to take the bus. Instead what I'll do is charge it evertime I use my laptop on campus.
 
yeah that could work too. I can easily plug it into my laptop at work too.
 
my iphone 3gs lasts all day and i love listening to music and plaging games, surfing the internet and dare i say it... looking at straight porn!

so ye don't worrie about the battery unless you live in the desert or in the jungle where you are away days at a time with no power suply!
