One of my favorite movies is Monty Python and the Holy Grail which was released in 1975. If you've seen it you know just how good comedy can get.

If it were being sold in 2013 it would have a completely different trailer, one with a blockbuster feel.

Read Underselling the Movies:

http://thedissolve.com/features/exposition/119-the-underselling-of-the-movies/

"Trailers and posters have become increasingly homogenous, as Hollywood advertisers making giant financial decisions become risk-averse and uncreative."

Someone created a "2013" edition of the trailer. Thought you might like to see it.

IMDB of the original film:

The trailer can completely change the film.

They did a fantastic job!

I felt like I was watching the next Batman trailer -

Thanks for sharing that...

very cool. Its like an entirely different movie. funny how different music and clipped scenes can really change a films trailer. I loved the original movie btw.

Well done! I love that movie. I wonder how many people are still trying to figure out what 'English kuhniggits' are?

Look how far you had to dig to find something you like--frikkin' 1975.

No one watched that kind of film then and no one would watch that kind of film now. Nothing has changed.

Sorry bout it.

You missed the point entirely of this thread.

Where did I say I haven't liked anything since 1975? There are lots of current films I like. This thread was just to show how a trailer can completely change a film and how they're marketed now.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a classic comedy that has a huge following. I suggest you see it before you make a judgement on it.

Sorry you didn't understand.

All I'm saying is that... It's really hard for me to say what I'm trying to say.

What I'm trying to say is that I'm guessing your Holy Grail was a commercial flop way back then. In other words marketing was just as shitty in 1975 as it is today. You'd think they'd have perfected it by now.

MANY people watched it- it's a classic!

Show me the numbers. (Those cult classics are never-ever fully appreciated in their day.)

OK -

From Fandango

"Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Cost to Make: $363,000 est.

Total Box Office: $127 million est.

Conceived during a gap between the third and fourth seasons of the popular BBC TV series Monty Python's Flying Circus, the comedy group spoofs the legend of King Arthur and his quest to find the Holy Grail."

Looks to me like a pretty good return on investment...

To say the least. But that number might be a little inflated. Could that be lifetime gross, maybe? I mean, sure, everyone likes it now...

Show me the 1975 receipts.

I'm trying to figure out what you're getting at with this.

What does the success of the film have to do with how it would be marketed almost 40 years later? Or are you just trolling....

JEEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, we hope you enjoy the ride; please do not stand up in the car, and leave your attitude at the door, all right? Cos I'm about to get nerdy with the numbers. If this upsets you, please avert your eyes and stop reading beyond this point. Yes?

So worldwide, and not including the US, it made a whopping 200k, or so, profit. Factor in the US, and suddenly things look a little bit rosier.

Pretty surprising actually.
