This black light poster caught my eye as I went through the stack of posters. It was a half finished statue of a grim looking pharaoh on the side of a cliff. It had a black sky beside the cliff with crudely drawn stars. The statue was mostly complete from the waist up. The bottom part of the cliff had what appeared at first glance to be a pyramid reaching up to the statue and along the edges you could see it was actually a pile of people struggling to get up to the statue. At the bottom was a pseudo hieroglyphics. It also had the label ‘The Last Hope’.
I had it for over a year and I found it strangely intriguing. It was mainly a decoration for the dorm room. I would study the hieroglyphics, was it a word puzzle or merely a decoration. Why or what made it the last hope? It was a great poster but I could not figure it out.
Then a fellow I hardly knew came in and was really studying the poster. He asked a bit about it but did not say what he was seeing in it. After he left I had this feeling I was missing something very important about the poster.
I looked at it more closely. I did not try to figure out hieroglyphics. Instead I looked more closely at the drawing. What were these people scrambling over each other in one mass to get to this statue? It did not have legs, six pack abs, strong flat chest, the classic narrow beard and the crowned head. Then I notice the crown, head and the beard looked odd.
As it the curtain was pulled back and the Egyptian motif faded into the back ground. I could not believe it. I had a poster of a penis on my wall. The statue head and crown was the head of a penis and the beard was the frenulum. The crude stars in the sky above and alongside the cliff were a splatter pattern of thick drops.
If I had realized what it was I would never had bought it. I ended up getting rid of it and never did figure out what if anything the hieroglyphics were. Recently out of curiosity I tried to find the poster on line, being some thirty years old it is not surprising that I could not find it.
