I've had good luck with netgear and cisco products.

I have a Netgear unit, been a year now, not a single issue.

I've had that Linksys WRT54G that you seem to see everywhere for several years, and never had any sort of issue with it.

Belkin's recommended fix:

Please note that disconnection from the router could be an issue related to the network card on the computer. In order to rectify this, the speed of the card needs to be changed. Please follow the steps given below in order to do the same:

1.Right click on "My Computer" -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager.

2.Click on the "+" sign next to "Network Adapters", right click on the Ethernet adapter listed there and click on Properties -> Advanced. Please change the Link speed/duplex mode to the value "10 Half".

If the issue persists, please update the drivers for the Ethernet card. This should resolve the issue.

Belkin has a setting that will put your internet into standby mode if it thinks your not using the connection.

Just turn off the sleep mode function in your modem settings.
