I've never paid for personal ads, dating services, etc...

Why would you want to pay to meet people who can't get a date???

In contrast to my original post over Labor Day Weekend, I am now finding gay.com to be a wonderful place to meet guys.

No, I'm not kidding.

I have met 3 truly wonderful guys there. 1 of whom is just for fun; 2 of whom I've dated.

All 3 have been honest, insightful, caring guys that are helping me to learn how the gay world operates (sexually and socially). (For those who don't know, I recently "switched teams" and came out as a gay guy at 42.)

However (and that's a very big however!), you have to be careful. You can't just hook up with anyone. You have to be selective. IM with them for 10 or 15 minutes to get a feel for them. Make sure they have photos. Read their profiles. Reject them if they don't have a profile or it's too short.

It's a lot of work, but I've found gay.com to be a fantastic resource for me. 3 great guys in 3 weeks. Not bad.

P.S.--And I subscribe to the premium service so I see big pictures and naughty bits. ;)

I have never paid for any personal ad either. I have thought about doing it on one of those environmentally friendly or vegetarian dating sites but I have never made the step to pay anything. The possibility of locally finding someone with common interests on a regular site would be very unlikely.

Nope. I would not pay either.

Free sites are good enough.

I mostly meet guys for sex and am hoping to meet new fbs.

If you start dishing out cash to meet them, you can also cut the crap and save the cash for professional services, once you come to think about it.

SC

If I'm paying the money to meet guys, I'll use the money to buy beer, it seems to work just as well (as in, "Hey, let me buy you a beer")

am I the only one who saw thorugh this obvious Spam post?

Ah, I missed that. Yes, indeed, this is his one and only post.

He sure didn't sound very excited about it, though. They need a better publicity director. ;)

I did it once but would never again pay for one of those sites. What I found was that 95% of the guys on those sites are people I have seen/met at the local bars. So why bother? Would rather meet someone in real time and know in 5 minutes if there is anything possible, rather than spending hours and hours on a website fishing through pictures and profiles, so many of which are the furthest thing from the truth.

Oh Joe... I'm hurt. I kinda wanted to violate you before anyone else.

As someone who has an ad in his posts, I suppose you might recognize this better than the rest of us. ;)

the difference being that it's JUB that gets the credit for any sales made form my sig.. not me. And I take part in the community, I don't just do drive-by spamming.

And I post hundreds of free pics for the members to take and share, not just "I found this great site you should all check out".

just sayin...

had no idea that jub could profit financially from every post you make

btw...

what happened to the jub contributor thing?

i noticed that it disapeared off of the admin and mod page

was this a result of the 2257 crap?

You'd have to ask JD and Seth about that for a definitive answer, but I seemed to be the only contributor who actually contributed anything. DonDon posted a bit, but aside from that, the rest of them just posted the odd link and a few pics.

I was the only one who did things like post 15-20 pics per week with links to video clips and gave background info as well as taking part in the every day posting on JUB.

I figure if my company (and by that I mean the company I work for) is going to benefit from the thing that JUB has created, JUB should also benefit - both the owners and the community members.

Others didn't see it like that, I guess, and the Contributor clasification was ended.

I got into it recently with someone about his incessant posting of press releases about a gay porn movie he made. I mean, when Fratmen releases a movie, I post 15 pics and a link in one thread... this guy had made like 90 posts and virtually every one was about this ONE movie.. most of them just press releases and media links. NO clips or stills or anything for the members of JUB other than "COME WATCH MY MOVIE" in about 10 threads and three forums. Even his Press Agent got into it once.

I get bugged when people come to JUB and just use it as some kind of free marketing tool. People come here for lots of reasons, but not just to take part in Surveys and studies and read advertising.

You might notice that I'm the Anti-Survey police too. When someone comes here and posts "Come take part in my survey" without contributing to JUB, I'm the first one in their face.

Just another annoying service I provide.

A stencil, spray paint and public restroom walls would be cheaper than other forms of personal ads.
Probably the same expectation of privacy as well.

Nothing horrid behind the removal of the Contributor group. :) We've been cooking up something new that will be 100 times better (hows that for hyperbole!) and Soil was the only one really using it. We tried to simplify things due to the recent code problems we had and just removed that since it wasn't really working anymore.
