Softball in grade school ALWAYS had me picked last. I couldn't judge distances worth a shit, and to me the ball was a projectile that was probably going to harm me, so my inclination was more to AVOID it rather than trying to catch it.

To this day I am VERY thankful that I never had football forced on me.

Nope. Up until high school, I was the most athletic kid in school. Especially dodgeball, I was freaking awesome. I would get annoyed if I wasn't picked first and would throw extra hard at any team captain who passed me up, just to teach him a lesson.

I was tall, thin and awkward, so often picked close to last. Senior year I flipped the script--volunteered to be captain every time, picked an assortment of the best players and the worst, and regardless of the sport, we always won. Thank God for a PE teacher who figured out what my plan was and let me be a captain most of the time. Ended up finally loving PE that year, and even made the winning touchdown for my team on the last play of our last flag football game. Kids who had always picked me last ran up and were hugging and high-fiving me.

It's still one of my favorite memories.

While you never wanted the fat kid when playing kickball or basket ball, you always want the fat kid when playing football. A good offensive/defensive line is a requirement.

I seldom ever got picked first. Let's just say I wasn't too popular.

In all schools I went to before uni, the teachers would never let the students pick. They either randomly divided people into teams or try to match them as evenly as possible. But every now and then when I got a substitute teacher they would sometimes let the students pick and when that happened I was either last or one of the last ones. I was overweight and not good at any sport. The only times I did well in PE was when we did square dancing, first aid, or swimming. I actually liked running laps or on days when we did fitness tests or when we spent days in the weight room, because I would rather do that than play sports. I HATE most sports, especially team-based ones. Dodgeball being probably the only exception that comes to mind.

I was one of few people who was not only willing, but wanted to be a goalkeeper so I was usually picked first or just made captain.

However we usually picked numbers so the teams would be randomised and fair, so selection was very rarely based on skill.

Though there was a period where due to myself making goalkeeping look sexy (thats my reason and I'm sticking to it) people randomly decided to take my goal away from me and I'd have to play out field =(. Sometimes I'd get picked near the back of the back on those times, but they didn't happen often.

Usually somewhere near the middle. It was always the same group of kids at school, so they knew what I was good at. I was usually near last for kickball, but near first for basketball (a talent I have lost) and always second or third for dodgeball (I was a fucking NINJA!!!!!).

Usually last. I was taller than most of my class and skinny as a pole. I could never gain weight ... until I hit age 30....and then!!!

Yes, usually last or close to it.

Similar theme here for me, I was a good sprinter, but hated most sports, especially if they involved physical contact. Hate, hate, hate playing sports.

I'm surprised that teachers would be so cruel as to allow team-picking to be done in such a fashion. It should be randomized or done in some other inoffensive way.

It depended on where/what the circumstances were... whenever we were just playing for fun or with impromptu games, I was usually towards the end because people always chose their friends first (And I didn't have many friends, haha. I was too quiet and super-pretentious when I was little).

But when we were playing for a prize, or when it was for bragging rights or whatever, I was usually high up because I was pretty good at most sports... except basketball, which I now refuse to play after having broken my finger three times while playing.
