what are some real (the aim here is drastic) changes that have happened in your lifetime?

Condensed version of this rant: You used to have to earn your stripes to have a music career (or *bang a record exec at least)

BITCH LET ME TELL YOU. I've been wanting to rant about this ever since somebody referred to the rainbow-haired rapper who endorsed trump (who called him Lil Pimp but it's actually Lil Pump) a legend. Rap and music as a whole. There were gatekeepers in the industry when I was growing up. You either had to spend years building your career or you had to be Clive Davis' cousin to get put on. And then Soulja Boy and YouTube collided into a huge mess and once soundcloud became a thing it was over. Every suburbanite whose parents could afford modest recording equipment suddenly had a platform.

This really helped unconventional artists (fat, old, obscure musical taste) reach an audience that otherwise would've never heard them so mind you this isn't a total shitstorm, BUT suddenly EVERYONE thought they had musical talent and especially everyone thought they were a rapper. Now rap is so oversaturated with people who are just bored and wanna be famous for a few minutes. Sifting through the coal to find diamonds is that much harder now and what really pisses me off is these mothertruckers release two hot singles on soundcloud and get called "legends."

Like, DUDE COME ON! i should think the term "legend" would apply to someone who's at least had a career for 50-10 years and even that's being too generous, but these new rappers be hot for like 4 minutes and their groupies call them legends. I dunno, I feel stingy with that word, in my mind legend is someone whose cited by new artists as influential, and definitely someone whose music is sampled by future generations. the artists from the 60s and 70s are still being name-dropped as inspirations and their song are still being sampled. this bubble gum microwave nursery rhyme rap is just clowns selling an image and repeating the same themes ad nauseum there's nothing timeless about it, total flavor of the week vibe. the funny part is the ones they were calling legends cuz they were poppin 2 years ago can't pack a patio now. case in point.....

you'd never know it, but two years ago this dude was on top of the world, hit songs, wrote a song for kanye west, of course his groupies swore he was gonna be the next tupac. now he's performing with more bodies on-stage than in the crowd

glad i got that off my tits, thanks for listening. what else is has changed in the world IN YOUR LIFETIME?

*another story for another day, when we have time for tea, A LOT of these younger rap artists ARE banging record execs, that's how their careers are getting sponsored. thug in the streets, folded up like a pretzel in the hollywood hills in some old indusrty head's sheets)
