  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Instrument you'd like to learn how to play.

](*,) ](*,)

The Piano = i want to play like Rubenstein and Horowitz and Giles and my favourite Serkin.(*8*) (*8*)

But there is not enough time.

And there certainly is no room in my European style condo. - it is much smaller then where I lived before. There I could have had a grand - take over the dinning room above the living room. And the sound would have had three floors to travel to reach its destinations.

So I shall have to make due with some great memories of some of the greatest artists of the last half of the 20th century.

I think I can deal with that.:(

I play the guitar but I wish I knwe how to play the piano.

The cello. I love it's voice. So much so that when I hear it I can feel it up and down my spine. I just don't know how to read bass clef.

I can play the piano pretty well.

I would like to be able to play the drums better than what I am currently able to do. Yeah, I can play the odd simple beat or two, but I really would like to advance to the stage where I can play the drums with a double-bass pedal without much problem.

I'd also like to learn the Acoustic again. You can get such beautiful sounds from it. Sometimes when I freestyle with it I can create nice pieces, but I'd prefer to know what I was doing, rather than guessing.. if that makes sense

I recently bought a violin, but it's a lot harder to teach myself than I thought it would be, so I think I'm going to take lessons. I rock at Piano though... I taught myself when I was about 12.

I'd very much like to learn how to play sitar, shakuhachi or the shamisen, but finding an instructor is problematic in the middle of Ohio ;)

Piano first, guitar second and saxaphone third. Right now I can only play CD's and MP3's.:-({|=

Don't forget Richter, dahlink. And Claudio Arrau, a very underrated artist.

If you seriously want to do this, why not see if there's a music studio somewhere with a practice room you could use? Or a local community college. It's never to late to start learning -- and it's so rewarding.

As for neighbors, I've gotten nothing but compliments from mine, even though I sound like shit, especially when I'm doing scales. Ask them what time of day is OK/not OK to practice.

Size doesn't matter, either. You can make some beautiful sounds even on a Baldwin Acrosonic spinet. I should know -- it's all I had to play on growing up.

AND -- I read that playing the piano burns up more calories than doing gymnastics-- how about that?

In other words -- you're running out of excuses dude!

Dude, you impress me more all the time! And I just know your ass is better looking than Billy Joe Armstrong's.

Definitely take lessons. You're probably past the point where you need Suzuki -- look for a regular teacher.

The guitar. I have one sitting in a closet and took a few lessons years ago.

I'd love to learn how to play the guitar....for those spontaneous moments around the campfire just chilling with friends and singing a song:)

Ever since they tried us out to see what insturments we would be able to play in the sixth grade, I have always wanted to play the trumpet. However, at the time anyways, I don't have the breath support to play any brass insturment. So instead I took up the clarinet. I really only picked that because my choice was between that and the alto sax, and if I couldn't play the insturment that I wanted to, I wanted something small, since I had been playing the cello the year before and quite because it was too hard to carry around.

After I played that for a few years, I ended up wanting to switch over to the sax anyways, which I did end up doing in the 10th grade for marching band, and stuck with that for marching band for the remainder of high school, and also ended up joining the jass band. But I would still love to be able to play the trumpet. I'd also like to be able to play another type of sax, the tenor, the baritone sax; I'd love to be able to play either of those too.

Suzuki? I dont understnad.

That's a method of violin teaching that's very popular lately. Instead of learning to read music, you learn to play by ear. Some people find it easier, but a lot of music teachers hate it because it can make it harder to go on to more advanced stuff. I guess, I don't play the violin.
