Interpol - Our Love to Admire

Just listened to it again. Not a bum track in the bunch, I didn't think. Very happy with it. :)

I've had it for a bit, I gave it a proper listen twice. It's not as catchy as TOTBL or Antics, but it's a solid album. I'll need to listen to it more.

Someone today was nice enough to slip me a seven inch. No, not like that - a 7" single. "Heinrich Maneuver"/"Mammoth (instrumental)". I'll have to give the B-side a listen...

This is the first CD of Interpol's that I have heard - and instantly I loved it - a really polished production, not dis-similar to that of Muse. Pioneer To The Falls is a classic track but my favourite has to be Mammoth - great angry lyrics.
I know that we have spoken about Interpol on IM Daniel - and you kindly sent me their first CD "Turn On The Bright Lights" - I have listened to it, but much prefer the new one.
I cannot hear them though without likening them to "The Editors" whom I saw in concert.
I can only imagine that Interpol will go on to be a "Stadium" act - however I hope that they do not lose their "indie" roots.

I loved their first album Turn On the Bright Lights, but I couldn't shake the feeling that it sounded precisely like the Chameleons covering Joy Division...or the other way around. This latest album certainly is the work of the same band, but they don't sound quite so much like anybody anymore. Other than themselves. :)

I hope that Interpol moves in the "Pioneer to the Falls" and/or "The Lighthouse" direction on future albums. Those are the standouts for me.
Am I the only one who thinks that first single "The Heinrich Maneuver" just sounds a little tired? It sounds exactly like something that would be on Antics. While I did like Antics (not as much as Turn On... or Our Love...), I think that they should've let go of that sound for the most part.

"Mammoth" and "Pioneer to the Falls" are my favorites so far. I love "The Heinrich Maneuver" too, but I downloaded that off iTunes 2 months ago, so I've had my fun with it. I agree with the Antics-ish sound it has. Kinda like "Slow Hands pt. 2"

But so far, I think i have to listen to it a few more times before I fall in love with it. It took me a few listens with Antics, and it ended up being one of my all time favorite albums.

"Heinrich" does sound a lot like "Slow Hands." It's not that I don't like it, it's just that I think they should progress with their sound.

By the way, the special edition is really not worth it unless you want a folded up poster (the one in the pic above). The special booklet is just pictures of animals similar to the album art.

Where are you, Daniel.....we want to know what you think!

Well I’m a bit late on this aren’t I. Ha. I have to say first that I downloaded the leak a few weeks before the release and just listened to small clips of each song once. I wanted to stay away from it as I downloaded “Antics” 2 months before the release and I was not very hyped when I bought it on its release as I had out played it. This time around I wanted to save some of the magic, buy OLTA and have a different experience. I must say I have given it a few listens and can now form an opinion on it .

I must say I all around enjoyed it. Surprised? Well with that said, Interpol made an Interpol record. I don’t think they were ready to branch out very much this time around as they know their niche quite well. I must say they are very good at doing what they do. Listening to it I could not help but think that it has elements of both “Turn on the Bright Lights” and “Antics” rolled into one record. As the other two records were polar opposites of one another, this had the best elements of them. Not a bad thing to use their strongest points and make a great album. I must say I wish they had experimented more. “Mammoth” sounds like they are in transition to making a different kind of song arrangement. If that song is any indication of their music evolution I really can’t wait. If they fail to do something different next time around I may get bored. A very solid record, that is all I wanted in the end. I’m sure this will be overplayed by me in the months that follow. Standout tracks for me are “pioneer” “mammoth” “pace is the trick” “all fired up” “rest my chemistry.”

The many versions left my bank account a bit hurt. Being the completist I am, bought the standard, deluxe, Japanese, vinyl versions. I really love the vinyl version. Nice to look at. As well as getting the singles and promo vinyl. Wow my Interpol collection is complete again for now. I will also be checking them out twice on the current tour in Sept. I really cant wait to see them once again. If anyone gets a chance, check them out live.:-)

Anyone else think "Rest my chemistry" sounds a bit like the pixies "Where is my mind?"

Hey Daniel....thanks for your post. I value your musical opinions. You seem to be pretty on the ball.
You said "Interpol put out an Interpol record.........not a bad thing to use their strongest points and put out a great record........very good at doing what they do......a very solid record, that's all I wanted in the end".

You've summed it up well for me, Daniel.
I guess I'm selfish, but tht's enough for me. I so enjoyed the first two releases, that the lack of experimentation onthis one was a relief.
It might have scared me if they HAD been more experimental.
That's not usually my take on bands and their musical progress.
I just SO value what they do.
And damn they did it well.
Thanks, mate!

And as for he Pixie reference, I see what you mean mcdaddy..|
