My brother wants me to buy an iPad Air. I was just wondering if there is anything good or bad about them from Jubber's point of views.

I have an iPad4. It is a nice "add on" but it sure does not replace a computer.

Two main issues I have so far are the lack of a USB port so I can not bring additional movies or music on a thumb drive when traveling... The iPad needs to be connected to a computer to move files.

The second issue is that with some websites including JUB there is an issue in chrome browser with the keyboard ( I use chrome because Safari for iOS is pretty limited). But it seems that something in the pop up ads makes the keyboard disappear so when I go to type I hit an add and what I was doing is gone. This had to be done in note and then copy / pasted in order to post.

So the main thing is what do you want to do with the iPad?

Do you need a tablet? What will you use it for?

Do you already own any Apple devices? Do you use iTunes for music, podcasts, books and/or video content?

Is budget a consideration?

I already bought the iPad Air. Mainly I bought it so I can travel with a computer, but something smaller than my laptop.

No I do not own other Apple products. I do use iTunes on my laptop, but I doubt I will on the iPad.

Anyways I paid $479 for it, but Target gave me a $100 gift card so I only paid $379. Was that a good deal?

Yeah. I don't get why it doesn't have an USB port. I wish it did.

Given that the RRP for the base model is $499, I'd say you got a great deal.

You got a GREAT deal! Other than JUB it works well for travel which is the main reason I got it. I am just surprised by the people who think it can replace a computer.

That would be fine with me. I tend to always have my [strike]laptop[/strike] tablet plugged in.

I think you misunderstand this whole Apple thing.

Apple has decided that you don't want your tablet plugged in.

Moreover, Apple has decided that you don't want a bigger battery to support a USB port, since you don't want your tablet to be heavier or thicker than it is (which is perfect).

Telling Apple what you want is just asking for hurt. Apple tells you what you want.

Is that why there seems to be so much Apple hate? Apple doesn't listen to their customers.

^ Exactly.

Apple prides itself on figuring out what most people want, and they probably do an extraordinary job of that. But, in limiting their ecosystem to only that, many people (who want something else) feel left out. That might not be a problem, except that Apple goes to extraordinary lengths to stop customers from using Apple hardware and software creatively. And the company has an attitude that customers who disagree with the corporate decisions are naive idiots who simply don't understand how flawless are Apple products. That arrogance annoys a lot of people, and is the source of never-ending jokes about and hatred against Apple.

I can see why that would bother people. In fact it bothers me and I probably wont even buy another Apple product.

^ I didn't mean to discourage you from buying Apple.

The hardware and software really are among the best available.

They do lock you into their ecosystem, however, in order to limit your options and thereby increase the company's profitability. But then, that's what companies (most assuredly including Microsoft) generally do.

I lean towards Windows products anyway. My brother is the fan boy that wanted me to buy an iPad. I did it because I hear Windows 8 sucks.

I got an ipad 2 as an xmas bonus 2 years ago and right now it is my "coaster" but I still use it.

Rumor has it that Apple is gonna come out with an iPad Pro akin to Windows Surface if that is something you would fancy. I couldn't personally bring myself to spend ~$1k on something like that when I can build my own PC.
