hi guys - I'm relatively new to JUB, but been a lurker for years. Wait, that makes me sound really creepy. :)

If you own an iphone, I'd love your opinion.

I created a gay-related iphone app. It's been a project I've been working on for about 8 months and looking to get some feedback from JUB members.

It's a gay events app, that works like Grindr. Showing you the closest events nearest you.

[[[ Whoops, I can't post URLs yet. Search on "Wsup Now" or "Gay Events" in the app store.]]]

The app covers NY, SF, Las Vegas, Chicago, LA, and Seattle. The app is free right now, so if you find the time to download it, I'd love to hear what you guys think.

And sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum, I couldn't find a travel-related forum.

would love to try it...but I don't live in any of those cities. :p

Thanks for the response. the app is good to have in case you visit one of those cities I forgot to mention and there's listings for national events too

I downloaded for a look, although here in Sydney there isn't any listing, of course. Nice looking App, however, and nicely straightforward.

Out of interest, where's the event data coming from? Are you compiling it yourself or pulling from another source?

@M1000 - thx for DL and review - very much appreciated (and posting the link!!!)

@andysayshi - Thx for DL. Let's just say the events are the secret sauce. There's no one source to gather them, so compiling them in several different manners. And it's not easy! :)

Planning on expanding to more cities and internationally within the next several months, but wanted to get some feedback first.

Hey groinforce!

(Aside: I thought your avatar meant "grow in force" but now I see GROIN in there, lol)

On topic: Your idea sounds really interesting and I can't say I've heard of anyone else developing an app that does what yours does. Have you thought about expanding your idea to other platforms? I'm a Windows Phone developer and would be interested in teaming up with you to bring your idea to the Windows Phone platform.

Unfortunately I don't have an iPhone to use to test out your app, which makes it even more compelling to branch out to other platforms. I bet there are a bunch of WP7 users out in Seattle.

Yeah, I need to change my SN. :)

Haven't thought as far as Windows phone yet, but definitely thinking about an Android version. It all really depends on how the iPhone app (did I mention you can download onto ipad and itouch?) is received. Do you have any android experience?

I don't have an iPod Touch or iPad either. I'm not a big fan of Apple :-) I do own a business doing this sort of stuff, and I have a contractor with an iPhone who may be willing to take a look at what you've developed.

I don't have any experience with Android either. I do know it's the most-selling smartphone OS out of the big three, but I know of many people who are dissatisfied with how it performs as well as the potential security risks with installed apps (my contractor was one of them I knew personally). I am a bit biased toward Microsoft, but a lot of people love the platform after actually trying it out for the first time, and WP7 is a huge improvement over Windows Mobile which I had also used beforehand.

Get that Promo.

I don't use gay apps but I will def download this to show support.

You'll be raking in that ad money in no time ;)

I can't win! :)

So believe it or not, I am an Android user, but since I live in San Francisco and the proliferation of apple products here and in silicon valley is huge, it made better sense to go iPhone.

If the iPhone app gets good traction, I'll definitely be getting ahold of you. Thanks for the offer!

Thanks for the support in downloading. Would love to know what you think of the app. I'm actually trying to stay away from ads and banners. I am hoping that users find it unique and useful enough that they'll pay for the app and not have ads pushed onto them.... but a good idea, is a free version. Hmmmm

Anyone else have a chance to download the app? Pleeeeeeaseeeee it's freeeeeee. Would love to hear your thoughts.

^ I'd love to support you, groinforce, but I also use Android, and don't live in any of the target cities (or even any of the target states). :(

Bring one to Denver! It would be very interesting to see the type of events here. At least to be informed....

The great thing about the app (I think) is that it's good for traveling to any of the cities. BUT, I hear you guys, I definitely plan on adding more cities in the near future. It's a lot of work! :)

I would def try it out, but don't own any apple products. My cell barely runs basic java apps...lol.
