Ipod Shuffle Won't Shuffle!! Help!

This is so frustrating. Ever since I reformatted my computer and started using my Ipod Shuffle (3rd generation) again, it won't let me shuffle my music! It keeps playing the same series of songs. And it won't even let me rearrange it. The area at the bottom left side of the Itunes screen that allows you to click on the Shuffle or Straight-Playing button is greyed out! See the bottom left corner in the attached pic to see what I mean!

I tried re-installing Itunes and I even restored my ipod to its default condition, erasing all my music. Grrrrrrrrrr.

So you're wanting it to shuffle in iTunes or when you play it during it being disconnected from your iTunes? Did you also make sure that the drivers were up to date too? Not sure if XP already had the drivers on the system when it was reformatted.

iTunes 10.2 came out I believe yesterday or today so they updated a lot. Today when I plugged my iPod into my computer it installed new drivers so maybe the drivers you have aren't working properly with your iPod shuffle.

Well, I can't shuffle it on Itunes, I know that much. But I also don't think it's shuffling when I play the songs on my Ipod, cause it tends to play songs by the same artist one after the other. I tried updating everything I could, but to no avail =(

Did it always look like that when you plugged it in? Cause it looks like it doesn't have the small drop down list which has your playlists, music and other stuff. I never owned an iPod Shuffle but figured that it would have the same kind of layout like any other iPod.

UPDATE: This is quite annoying, but it works fine when I plug the Ipod into my laptop. I guess I'll just have to sync it with my laptop instead of my PC. Oh well.

Is iTunes set to only shuffle by artist or grouping?
