I'm seriously considering having lasik surgery. Anyone here with experience in this? Think it's worth it?

IMO, yes! I had lasik the FIRST time 15 years ago. I had it done again three months ago. I highly recommend this procedure!

Years ago I might have considered it but a friend had a bad experience with a consultant and it has put him and me off any sort of eye surgery

A girl i worked with had it done years ago it screw up with her eyes. It's probably different for everyone else.

At your age, it may be worth it.

A decade ago, I asked about it in Albuquerque, and the doctor recommended against it due to my age, which was late 40's. He said I'd be facing cataract surgery after several years and that they do not recommend multiple surgeries when they are not necessary.

Although statistics are in your favor, any surgery is a risk, and eye surgeries are included. In the 70s when Grandmother had her cataracts done, the doctor nicked her eye in such a way that the aqueous humor spread partially into the iris, which was permanent damage.

Don't take it too lightly or be too sure you are invincible. It's surgery.

I first considered it back in my mid 20s. Then I had a professor in my grad school that was legally blind from... Lasik. That scared the he'll out of me.

Recently, I started getting interested in it again.

have a relative --a young guy--who did it and is happy with the results ---luckily I have good vision because I know I'd be afraid to mess around with my eyes.

I had it done back in 2003. I have noticed that my vision has degraded since then but they told me that was normal. I might need an enhancement done but otherwise I am very happy with the results!

The machines that do the procedure have gotten much better in the past 5 years. It's amazingly quick and the results are dramatic. The first 24 hours afterward are uncomfortable; most doctors tell you to go home and go to sleep the rest of the day.

If you have it done, make sure that the procedure is done by a physician who has lots of experience with the procedure. They should also do a detailed screening to make sure that the procedure is appropriate for you.

This article is a pretty typical story of the experience:
