Today while I was on lunch my bosses boss told me that our floor in our department was being fixed, which was not an issue we had ever talked about before.
Since they were available unexpectedly, I saw it as a good opportunity to ask for something to be ordered for another employee.
They said to have them talk to a different employee and have that person do it..--saying to not go through me even though it would look really incompetent if i didn't.--
Then later today when I was trying to leave, the top manager asked me if it was the person we just spoke about that needed something ordered.
Wondering why would they would be communicating to me at work off the clock and why would they be asking for clarification on something that they had already delegated to me.
But I knew why the manager asked who the employee was and why they did it at the time and place they did.
They were in fact the proper person to ask to have something ordered because they had specifically done it before, --- not the person I was told, by them, to go through.
If that isn't a proper channel, why were they breaking their own rule by talking to me off the clock about something we had never talked about?
They just wanted it both ways. That would explain why they were taking it upon themselves to control a process that was not their responsibility.
Then I realized when I tried to understand all of this, I sometimes do the same thing when I sense incompetence in those who are supposed to model leadership, but are exactly the kind of people to drag an organization down.
But this isn't a normal 'business' to be in, its political, you make many enemies whom you've always had their best interests at heart and make friends with those you compete against.
Since this person took over, our 'morale' score has dropped 10-15%, which could be seen as significant, considering it was on its way up from being below average.
My direct supervisor has come to the same conclusions that I have in a fraction of the time, has choice words for both my manager and his boss, but he is the type of person who would be vulnerable to demands, since he has no recourse if he fucks up and they chose to scapegoat him.
---
Is the company is upset that they lost all of their demands at the last contact vote, and is seeking ways to punish the employees?
I also have spoke out against my own manager, who is incompetent, lazy, passive-aggressive, alienates every person under him especially the person directly below him and becomes visibly panicked anytime the subject of accountability comes up.
He has gone through 4 assistant managers since hes got here, and seems to enjoy watching his employees fail by systematically undermining them, having an attitude that people should care what he thinks when hes failed at his job.
Because of my opposition and the choices ive made, the battles ive kicked off, and the decisons ive supported others on, i have become sort of a person the other employees look to as someone to challenge the status quo. So i have been shifted by my choosing and mostly the desires of people I trust, into more responsibilities as they have come in the past, without an interview.
But im also disliked by the other half of employees who see me as someone that they do not trust. Im not sure they realize our program has the most vocal employees for a reason.
I dont doubt myself as much as I have in the past, but see few alternatives other than to keep plowing ahead.
