I think it's interesting that most porn performers are referred to as "stars," but only a handful of them are!
And porn has so many subcategories. The main general "generic" and mainstream porn is almost always young and white (with drops of Latino), and Black, Asian, and others are their own categories. So Peter Le may be considered a "gay" solo porn "star" in "Gay Asian Porn" but unless you tend to look up Asian porn you probably have no IDEA who he is. Then when you get to the "mainstream" porn, is "stardom" based on notoriety, or on popularity?
Also, would a "star" include people who were famous, and now nobody knows who they are (older porn stars, or the Jeremy Lorys and Jeremy Easts of the world)?
Or do we use "star" because they are in this "glamorous" porn "lifestyle" where they're hot enough to get lots of sex and to be wanted by everybody?
And if that's the case, then technically isn't anyone who is a porn performer but fits the cookie cutter mold of mainstream, white, jocky, porn, a "porn star type" over that really popular chubby Asian porn star who everyone in his field loves but because he looks "alternative" he isn't seen as someone who could ever pass as a "porn star"?
