The day I found out I had testicular cancer. Had the right testicle removed, went through 15 days of radiation therapy and was declared all clear.
May 2014
Scans, xrays, bloodwork, etc showed no signs of recurrence, but i had hit my head shortly after and had a knot form on my skull. It started getting too big for my comfort so I saw my drs again to see if it was anything to worry about. Sure enough, it was.
June 23rd, 2014
This was the day they informed me I'd need to see an oncologist. The cancer had come back and spread: the tumor on my skull, a tumor in my T4 vertebrae, and a lymph node in my groin had a small tumor. The course of action was 18 days of radiation to both my skull and my spine to shrink the tumors and then (4) cycles of BEP (bleomyecin, etoposide, cisplatin) to get rid of everything else. I also had an infusoport put in on July 11th (a year from my original diagnosis)
Everything started out well, tumors responded well to the radiation. Then began the chemo on July 14th and while uneventful initially, it got worse.
Did a combination of chemo (morning) then radiation (afternoon) from July 14th through the 25th of July. Radiation ended on the 25th, but still had chemo for another 3½ months.
The combination nuked my system and on the 26th of July, I was in the ER due to being unable to eat/drink and I was running a fever of 102 degrees. The culprit (after 4 hours in the ER) was a white blood count of .02 (non-existant immune system). I was admitted and put on fluids, antibiotics, and kept under close watch because I was dangerously close to going septic. 3 days, multiple neupogen shots, numerous fluid bags of antibiotics/fluids and I was released.
The next 3½ months went by without a hitch, mostly getting sick at the end of each cycle due to the buildup of chemo in my system, but no more hospitalizations.
Fast forward, February 2015 - I finally get my all clear scans & bloodwork they say I'm in remission. Still in remission over a year later, follow up with my drs regularly. Now living in sunny Tampa Florida.
Incoherent rambling, it looks like. Hopefully you can understand the timeline. Attached a pic from my most recent visit to Austin for my nieces 2nd birthday.
Regards,
Cody
