Well my vacation is about nearing its end. I am eager to get back to Boston and get busy with things. I gotta get back to working so I have money. I have about a week and a half until I start my internship, which I'm so excited about, and school also starts back soon. The internship is probably going to be the greatest thing in my life. Seriously...
Anyway, this has been an amazing trip. It was my fourth trip out to Seattle and I never get tired of the place or the company. My best friend grew up here but we spent most of our time together in NY when we went to college. Each time I come out here I am reminded of my coming out. I came out in May of 2005, right at the end of my Junior year of college, and the first person I told was my best friend. She and I both had to leave for summer vacations. She went to Seattle for the summer and I went home to Pennsylvania so we didn't really have a lot of time to talk about things but I decided that I would plan a trip out to Seattle. I did visit that summer and it was great. I think that was my first trip to a gay club where I danced all night in the company of people where I truly felt comfortable with.
So each time I come out here I am reminded of how I came to be the man that I am today. I'm very proud of being gay and I am definitely a changed man from the man I was three years ago.
Besides seeing some of the same things I usually see (The Space Needle, The Castle-porn store, Kirkland-my favorite city in the area and probably where I would love to settle down) I have done some things I have never done before. I participated in karoke. I don't know why I've never done this sooner but it was a lot of fun. I realized that I cannot sing while I'm drunk, I become completely tone deaf. I swear I can sing really, and trust me, you would not have wanted to be there
I also had the privilege of going canoeing. I don't know why I have never done this before either. At first I was super scared because I didn't want to fall in, especially in Lake Washington. I had no idea what was in the water below me and I've never really swam in a lake before. But everything was fine, I had my best friend with me who assured me that everything was ok, and after the first two minutes I was fine. I'm so glad I went through with it. I also went to my first beer brewery and took a tour of the facility. That was really interesting too!
All in all it was a really great vacation and it really helped me to both end a chapter in my life and start a new one. Doing some of the same things assured me that I am still the same person but doing new things allowed me to pave the way for even new experiences and new ways of growing and living.
I know this is really long and god bless you to the ones who will read it.
