Yes gang, seems like every couple of years dreams of a Space Hotel make the rounds online.

This time, Orbital Assembly Corporation, is confident that construction of the Voyager Space Station Hotel could be completed by 2027.

Regardless of the timeline, building a space hotel is unbelievably expensive and material support for visitors means the price of a hotel stay is "cosmic".

In an alternate universe there's a different version of me that can just enjoy stuff like this without thinking of the 17 katrillion better ways we could be using our resources.

It would take a lot of training just to go up there. And with 5 million for a weekend I might have to stick with the Holiday Inn. Interesting as hell tho. :)

If it doesn't have Keir Dullae and Gary Lockwood on board, count me out... especially if HAL is running the damned thing.

There's one aspect of an orbiting space hotel that fascinates me, space motion sickness.

A lot of civilians will discover that they will not be able to keep food down, even with the help of drugs.

Motion sickness is space can be severe enough to need medical evacuation back to Earth in some cases.

This is beautiful fantasy but, is way too ahead of it's time.

I hadn't thought of that, either. The fluids in the ear must set off every directional sensor to 'up' at the same time.

Not knowing what we're getting into has never stopped us from doing incredibly stupid and potentially dangerous things. isn't nasa sending out messages and, as of something I read this morning, nude photos to the cosmos? Might get a response from friendly extraterrestrials, might be an advanced race of space pirates with weapons that could incinerate our planet. I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there???

Beaming nude photos into outer space? Could that possibly provoke horny extraterrestrials to come to earth and do anal probes on rednecks?

I've tapped out, they lost me at "sending nudes," I don't have a single fucking clue what they're trying to accomplish. At this point it feels like they're literally just taking the money so that it won't go to social programs. If we're sending dick pics to aliens we've explored everything there is to explore until significant tech advances push us further.

Not only are you correct, this is the sort of stuff my best friend in high school loved to talk about.
The whole misguided effort to contact extraterrestrials! He would say things like, "for all of our sakes, let's hope we are unsuccessful".
