This is an interesting very laid-back Jimmy Somerville video clip from his forthcoming acoustic album, "Suddenly Last Summer". Surely he's got to be one of the most influential real gay icon of our time!

Is that an old Doors tune? I know I have heard it before but cant place the group.

he is a great performer . He is still doing lots of shows in Europe .

I have heard that there are quite revealing photos of him out there . He apparently used to post photos on sex sites yrs ago. He even said at point he would connect with guys online and show up at there place and they would be shocked to see him at their door. Love to see him naked ........

This probably sounds corny but that first acoustic set at The State Theatre during Mardi Gras 2006 was a deciding factor for me to stay with my current boyfriend. That period was a really rough patch for us and actually thought it was going to be our last night together. I guess you'd had to be there to really understand how I felt but, fuck, it's just another language when you actually get to really hear him sing and songs just have a much deeper meaning. I'm hoping an acoustic version of "By Your Side" will be on the album.

I'm not a big Musical fan and I think it's kind of unfair to call Jimmy's "People Are Strange" show tune. It certainly does have a theatrical presence about it.

His voice is an acquired taste for sure. Smalltown boy has certainly been sampled & used a lot over recent years.

Its very well known that he frequents well known cruising areas & public toilets for sex.

lucky guys ..... now where would photos of him might be ?

You wouldn't say that if you'd seen him! He's always been known as Potato head.

I know he was a big star early 1980s so he must be pushing 50 by now.

Sad that he's still slutting around toilets.

A fantasy is a fantasy. Even 20 yrs on . Just seeing him naked once will settle it for all . After all I am also near 50 ...

From Jimmy Somerville’s forthcoming album Homage due March 10th 2015

2014 saw the 30th anniversary of the 1980’s synthpop group Bronski Beat’s ‘Smalltown Boy’. Originally released in 1984 and based on frontman Jimmy Somerville’s own coming out experience, the song addressed key issues in 1980’s LGBT culture and brought homosexuality and homophobia into the pop mainstream. The song deals with loneliness, rejection, and bullying due to supposed differences. An inspiration to many people, it has also been covered by a slue of artists, including by Dido and it still celebrated musically worldwide. ‘Tell Me Why’, from the same album, was also a politically-charged LGBT anthem.

When Bronksi Beat parted ways in 1985, Somerville formed the Communards, releasing such hits as the well-known covers of ‘Never Can Say Goodbye’ and ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’. After leaving the group in 1988, Somerville continued to record solo, producing politically-infused singles like ‘Read My Lips’ and ‘Run From Love’. More than 30 years later, Somerville’s distinctive vocals have not aged a day, nor has his ability to get the party started with an infectious beat. 2015 marks the ginger bear’s return with a new look and his 14th studio album. The first single off his forthcoming album Homage, to be released March 10th, is ‘Travesty’. This club classic is both relevant to his celebrated catalogue and to the contemporary sound.

We chatted with the 53 year old, Scotland native about the new sound, bullying and LGBT issues in the UK.

Jimmy Somerville - Back To Me (Radio Edit)

I'm glad to hear he's still making music! I loved Home Again and then hadn't heard much after that, so this is awesome!

Iconic singer Jimmy Somerville (Bronski Beat, The Communards) has announced the release of his sixth solo album, Homage, on March 9. The record, a collection of 12 original disco tracks, is a tribute to the genre that inspired Jimmy so much during his teenage years.

"A homage to disco is something I always wanted to do. I never really thought I could pull it off but I did, and it's a really brilliant album to be perfectly honest," says Somerville, exuding confidence and enthusiasm -"All influences, all the music I've listened to are in there. When I listen to it, it makes me think of being 15, sitting on the bed, taking the vinyl out of the sleeve, putting it on the record player, then just sitting and reading all of the sleeve notes whilst losing myself in the music."

"There's a massive glitter ball in my head and it has never stopped turning" - Jimmy Somerville
