I also never heard of this guy until this came about in the news.

Who the fuck is this guy and why is he famous?
 
I believe that during the Presidential elections he was heralded as the ideal Republican or something.... hence the generic (and laughably untrue) nickname Joe the Plumber.
 
Interestingly enough, about half the comments on this article on the Christianity Today Website condemn Joe's racial and homophobic slurs, as well as a number of other things that he said. Again, things aren't always what they seem...
 
Agree with everything said so far. What kills me is there are right-wing people who still put forward the lie about the 'liberal media'! Hah! If the media were liberal then, indeed, we wouldn't have ANY coverage of media whores like JTP and Sarah 'Cast Out the Witch!" Palin.
