David Tennant hasn't yet abandoned his starring role in the BBC SF series Doctor Who, but rumors have already begun circulating that Paterson Joseph--who guest-starred in the first season--may be the leading candidate to replace Tennant as the 11th Doctor. Joseph would be the first black actor to assay the iconic role.

i will be soo disappointed when tennant leaves the role. he's been awesome throughout and fun to watch. the fact that he is very easy on the eyes doesn't hurt either! but that's the thing with this show, time lords regenerate. at some point tennant will leave the program.

yes! patrick stewart has expressed a desire to be on doctor who, but not as the doctor.

The Doctor can regenerate a total 13 times. With Tennant as number 10 - he should stay on for a few more years.

Nope....All Time Lords (save The Master) can only regenerate 12 times (for a total of 13 incarnations), and The Master has only done so is some pretty evil ways....

Adric got nuked (figuratively) because so few people liked him. He almost always makes the Least Favorite Top Ten characters of all time, as he was one of the few companions that was actually smarter than the doctor. There was even a massive write-in campaign to eliminate the character somehow because he was constantly upstaging The Doctor. Well, that and the whining. Let's just say that death by heroic suicide was the best that the character could hope for....

i liked adric's character at first. but then he got annoying. it was the writing not the actor.

as for a black doctor. i don't care. i'm ok with that. i don't think it's likely though.

as for stewart being it it. lol that's cool. crazy that they might make him the meddling munk though. that's just wow.

as for how many times he can regen. it was always 12. then the master did it more times (although with help each time and it wasn't a "real" regen). however, the master was offered a full new set of 12 by the high counsel. so that implies that you can have more if they allow it. since there aren't anymore of the high counsel, presumably there can be more than 12 regens for the doc.

I stopped watching after the first season of the modern series. I don't like David Tennant...much preferred Chris Eccleston. Dont ask me why.

Yeah. Cause there's a rumour going around that in the final three movies featuring David Tennant as the Doctor. John Simm is supposedly resurrecting his role as the master.

But what. The master died right. He refused to regenerate and then the Doctor burnt his body so how could he come back?

The rumour mill says it's the ring. Something about him cloning his body (remember the Lazurus episode) and then just before dying he transfered his essence into the ring. I dont know how it's going to work but i will say this.....

We haven't seen the last of the Master and since he's so good at killing off the Doctor (Baker's 4th died at the hands of the master saving the world) it makes since that he be the one to off Tennant.

if the doctor can only regenerate 12 times, didn't he use one up in the 12th episode cliffhanger of series 4.

That wasn't a full regeeration. He stopped the process after it fixed his body...transferring the extra energy off into his hand.

you are right it's supposed to be the ring thing. but i'm wondering if it has something to do with the doctor not regen this last time and his energy went into his hand. the master's regen energy maybe went into something as well. maybe we just didn't see the energy. i think he'll definately come back. i would be a little surprised if they really picked him as the next doctor though.
