I know this is a stupid question, but my FF has suddenly started rendering JUB in a smaller font/window size. Here's what I get when I browse with FF:

Here's what I get when I browse with Epiphany:

How do I make FF act like Epiphany, and make JUB bigger? (Thiis only happens with JUB. FF and Epiphany display most sites the same.)

Also, I had to give the urls to the screen caps because I can't get the pics to display.

What gives? JUB is so SLOW lately.

OS: ubuntu 8.04 beta (Kernel Linux 2.6.24-12-generic)

Desktop: gnome 2.22.0 (Build date 03/28/08)

FF: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9b4) Gecko/2008031317 Firefox: 3.0b4

Epiphany: 2.22.0 (Powered by gecko-1.9)

Processor: AMD Sempron 3000+

Display: nVidia accelerated graphics driver for 64 MB AGP graphics accelerator card.

RAM: 1 GB

You're lucky. I have such a crappy computer this is what I get:

^ Yeah, that's what I get, too.

Did you adjust font sizes in preferences?

Adjusting the font size doesn't help. You just get bigger text that scrolls in the same narrow ribbon in the middle of the screen.

It's very weird. I'm running a 1680x1050 resolution screen on a 22 inch monitor and I can't see anything because it's all crammed into a narrow ribbon in the center of the screen.

Well, hell.

I've switched to Epiphany because I couldn't seen anything in FF, and now I can see the picture gsdx has posted above! Under FF, it was just a black rectangle.

Methinks there are gremlins about.

I've had to scroll ever since the black menu bar was added to the tops of the forums. Nothing I do will make the whole page fit the screen except to up the resolution. I'm currently running at 800x600, but my monitor is so small I can't read anything on it if I make the resolution higher. I could keep adjusting the font size, but that's just as much a pain in the ass as scrolling from side-to-side.

Any of you running Linux, the Epiphany browser works just fine (so far). It just doesn't have all the plugins FF has.

I haven't tried IE or Konquerer or Safari.

Damn! Thanks!

It's under the "View" tab.

Click: View/Zoom/Zoom in a couple times and it magnifies the entire page with every click!

I figured there must be a way to do it! Thanks again!

There's a dropdown menu at the very bottomleft of the page that switches the layout from "tight" to "classic." Changing that might help.

I'm currently on 'Classic' and have changed the settings in 'My Settings'. Nothing works. The page is made to fit a higher resolution and I simply can't see it when I do. My system is so small and crappy that I can't run anything higher than Window98 at an 800x600 resolution.

Such is my lot in life.

How much RAM you got in that thing, gsdx? And what processor?

You might be able to run Puppy Linux or even ubuntu. I switched to ubuntu from Vista about a year ago. I know nothing about computers, but I eventually learned most of what I needed.

And I ain't never goin' back!

As far as FF, I know the Windows FF is different from the one for Linux. But you should be able to use the higher resolution screen, then magnify the view like I did. In Linux FF, it's under the "View" tab.

Click: View/Zoom/Zoom in once or twice. It gets bigger with each click.

1.2 GHz processor
512 megs RAM
20 gig hard drive
14" monitor
56-year-old eyes

I tried the text resize thing but it's a pain in the ass. I was constantly switching back and forth every few seconds. Besides, my programs that I use almost every day are older programs and, when I use them in the higher resolution, I can't see them well enough to use them properly. I was constantly changing resolution back and forth as well. If I had the browser and one of my programs open at the same time, it was virtually impossible to use them without changing resolution each time I switched from one to the other.

Like I said, such is my lot in life. Unless I win a lottery, I'm stuck with what I've got. And, since I don't play the lottery, I'm stuck.

^ Your system is plenty powerful (well, for everyone except Microsoft, that is!). You should try ubuntu.

Get the i386 desktop version 7.10. You can install it right alongside Windows and boot either.

Ubuntu will give you access to the latest software technology and it's reasonably fast on modest systems. Plus, it's free - and updates for the OS and most of your installed programs are free forever! You don't need to be rich - you can always have the latest versions of everything free.

There's a lot to learn, but after you get over that hump, you're set for life!

Version 8.04 is coming out April 24. It's even easier for beginners, IMO. But you don't need to wait. Version 7.10 will offer to upgrade you to 8.04 at the click of a mouse, when 8.04 final release becomes available.

BTW, you won't need to worry about viruses and crap, either. It's safe for surfing, right out of the box! Very secure.

But that won't change the size of either my monitor or hard drive. The OS isn't the problem. It's a crappy, makeshift system built from second-hand parts.
