Just re-watched Brokeback Mountain

We just "can't quit" this movie, can we.

I have it on Blu-ray. Beautiful scenery (including Heath and Jake) and the score by Gustavo Santaolalla is equally beautiful.

I have never been able to suspend my disbelief and see these two actors' characters as gay in the film. It may be that Heath and Jake were so well known at the time of its release that I couldn't really get into it.

I honestly think I would've enjoyed it more if unknown actors had played the roles but then it probably wouldn't have gotten a nationwide release and/or all the attention and awards.

I reckon it's overrated to be honest. Everyone goes on about how it breaks down stereotypes but it's pretty much a slasher film. Every out gay man dies horribly in it.

Only Jake dies in it. It was a different time when they fell in love. You couldn't jump online, meet a guy, find a gay bar, find a support group on how to tell your family, and contact lambda defense so you don't lose your job.

This film has a few little flaws here and there, but it contains a truly great performance by Heath Ledger, particularly in the scene in the kitchen where his wife confronts about the relationship. I forgot completely about the actor and saw only the character - the mark of great acting. Worth watching again for that alone, despite other quibbles about the film.

But that doesn't mean every single gay man died horribly. Times weren't great but I'm getting sick of seeing movies where the gay person dies horribly at the end.

I love that movie. The amazing thing is that it is made from a short story by Annie Proulx that is only about 30 pages long.

Thank you again. I have been chewed to pieces for not loving Seymour Hoffman in Capote. Some other little man did the same role and was much better as Truman. I don't know his name.

TOBY JONES! Yes! Infamous was a MUCH better film about the same subject than Capote and it's Jones who should've been nominated instead of the overrated hipster-approved Philip Seymore Hoffman.

Brokeback Mountain is a touching masterpiece....The Casting Director truly knocked it out of the ball-park when he cast Heath & Jake...Heath Ledger could do any role and he left us waaaay too soon.....I would like to see another Gay Love Story make it to the Silver-Screen with A-listers.....This time no one needs to die and we need the relationship to be out in the Open....No Down-Low or married Guys cheating on their wives...Just 2 single-Men exploring a friendship/relationship with Drama & Suspense in the mix....

I'd like to see Will Smith & Harry Connick Jr. portray lovers...Remember seeing them in "Independence Day" back in the 90's?...The scene where Harry is sitting down on the bench and Will's Ass is in Harry's Face is a Classic-moment from that Flick.....LOL....They had good on-screen chemistry......It would be a Box Office hit....

Overrated.

Your thoughts are all clouded because its a "gay" movie.
