More than a dozen of the world's most accomplished female recording artists -- a cast that includes Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, Fergie, Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Melissa Etheridge, Ashanti, Natasha Bedingfield, Keyshia Cole, Ciara, Leona Lewis, LeAnn Rimes, and Carrie Underwood -- have joined together for "Just Stand Up," an unprecedented charity single in support of Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), a new initiative to raise philanthropic dollars for accelerating ground-breaking cancer research.

"Just Stand Up" was conceived by Antonio "L.A." Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group, after a powerful and inspiring meeting with the women who organized the Stand Up To Cancer campaign (whom Reid affectionately dubbed the "magnificent seven"). The song was produced by L.A. and Kenny 'Babyface' Edmonds -- their first creative reunion on record in nearly two decades. "Just Stand Up" will be released to radio and will be available to purchase exclusively on the iTunes Store starting September 2nd.

"Just Stand Up" is all about the singers and the composers banding together behind SU2C's mission: rallying the public around the goal of ending cancer's reign as a leading cause of death. The all-star television performance premiere of the song will take place live on Friday, September 5th (8pm EDT and PDT), when ABC, CBS, and NBC simultaneously devote one hour of commercial-free prime time to this nation wide event. This will be the first simultaneous cross-network broadcast ever to raise funds for the fight against a disease.

In addition to performances by legendary recording artists, the Stand Up To Cancer special will feature stars from film and television who will perform as well as present filmed content giving viewers insight into cancer. Various screening tests will be demonstrated in novel and entertaining ways.

I hate these kind of things and the only person I like listed is Sheryl Crow. Good cause and I see why Sheryl supports but the fact she sings with these people makes my skin crawl.

>>>"Just Stand Up" is all about the singers and the composers banding together behind SU2C's mission...

Suuuure it is. It's certainly not a promotional opportunity or anything. It's all about the cause. :) If that's really true, I say we all skip the song and send the cause $5 via Paypal.

I don't mnd charity singles, but this one is dull beyond compare. It makes me miss the heartfelt lyrics of "Voices That Care". Good songs can be written for good causes, but it seems that the songwriting nowadays seems like an afterthought. "Hey, it's got Miley on it - it'll sell."

I automatically said I don't like it for one reason...

They should be donating their fucking paychecks, not just their voices to this. They each make millions a year, and yet they can't each donate a million, or more, to this cause? They are so attached to this lifestyle, they ain't gonna give it up easily.

Great Performance!!!! I think Miley tried to sound like Rihanna, but failed horribly. lmao I downloaded the song today from itunes! :)

Yup.................................................................................

The models you "inspect" and the Jesse Mccartney in your avatar, how much time have they spent doing community work?

I understand your post, until you shown your ignorance. The male model thing is a joke, nothing more, and the jesse mccartney avatar is there until I bother to change it.

I don't do much in my community because of two reasons. 1. There honestly aren't too many problems in this city, 2. The times I did offer to volunteer, I never got a call back.

Whenever I hear about celebrities donating money, it's usually under a million, I think the most I've heard was 500,000, unless it was on behalf of some organization they played for, or a charity concert, or some charity single.

Seriously though, if every musician who supports these charities donated at least a million each... that would probably go a long way to help whatever cause the charity is for.

WTF?! Somebody who gives excuses instead of finding ways to contribute is blasting celebrities for not giving enough?

Now your coming across as looking for another target now that chance is gone, lemme guess, Jesse McCartney avatars are free reign?(oh, for a nice little list so far; SPCA, Big Brothers and Sisters of Canada, various public venues, and charity functions at schools to name a few.

Why the fuck should I keep trying to volunteer for these places when they obviously don't care enough to call me back??

I get it. You haven't heard about them giving more...since....ya know...people are ALWAYS talking about how much celebs donate, so that must mean they don't give more. Makes perfect sense.

Could also be that if they do, which you haven't proven they have, And it could also be that I'm not obsessed by celebrities, or media itself(outside of some good music that can keep me with a steady head)
Apparently unlike you.

You're right. They don't give more because you haven't heard that they do. I'll tell you what, these organizations certainly aren't gettin' their funds from the government so they're coming from somewhere.

Again, prove they are, and I'll retract what I said.

Ohh, I don't know, maybe it's the millions of people who donate time, money, and supplies who aren't celebrities. Oh, Oh, here's one, non-celebrity backed NGO's who actually raise their own money, wow, what a shocker. Or maybe there are some companies out there who.... wait for it... ACTUALLY GIVE A FUCK???

Stop living in the clouds with your fucking celeb playmates and realize that other people might actually give a fuck, and donate money, time, and supplies, they might barely be able to afford giving away, because their just... NICE PEOPLE???

And I got some fucking news for you, out of all the celebrities out there who voice for a cause, how many actually donate their own hard earned money? Sure, there are quite a few with this. But how about with the AIDS crisis, or STI crisis in general, around the world?

How about the homeless/jobless problem North America has? How many celebs you got lining up to dish out money for shelters in cities, or funds to help keep them well stocked for the entire year?

How about the gang problems? I don't see the rappers donating money and their time to help fight what they've caused.

As I said, if every celeb donated a million or more(think about how many are out there) to their choice cause(s), imagine how much good would come of it, on top of them donating from concerts, cd's, etc. It would do good, alot of good.

Why are you people turning this thread into a hot bitchfest mess?

Anyways, I love the song and the performance. I wish Christina, Britney, and Pink was there.

This is pointless AND hypocritical of you. By default, the celebs have already done more charitable work than you with this song because you gave up after a few unanswered phone calls. While these celebs are traveling to Africa and organizing foundations you're making excuses for your lack of contributions while blasting them for not contributing enough. Sorry but that's just pathetic.

"I tried"......

There's ALWAYS a group you can support, if you actually put as much effort into it as you put into these paragraphs about everybody else, you'd gain some ground. How much time do you spend googling local AND INTERNATIONAL charities? To save face, you don't have to answer that.

I find it so fucking convenient that you ignore the majority of my post, and focus on what you can use to criticize and insult me.

Everyone, we have ourselves Chance the Second.

My apologies if that's what it turned out to be, but when someone takes a simple comment as apparently offensive to one or more of his precious "gay idols" it's hard for it not to turn into a bitchfest.

At this, I say adieu.
