Today, I'm at the Central Library in Downtown Los Angeles. I was eyeing this guy who looked very tempting, and I followed him from one bookstack to another. I picked up a pencil and a small piece of paper, then I wrote:

Hello,

I keep looking at you
because you do look good.
Do you live around here?
How often do you come here?

I left the note on the bookstack so that he could get it from the other side. He would glance over the books directly at me while he was browsing. Then, when he sat down at a table with some of his books, he would gaze at me, uninhibited.

I was curious, but I didn't know just how to approach him. I can't read minds, although I can read expressions clearly. What would you think if you received something like that from someone who was interested in you?

I'd write back.

I'm flattered, but I'm partnered.
Thanks for making my day!

A guy I dated years ago told me he wanted to do the same thing to me before we officially met. He used to see me in a coffee shop and didn't know how to approach me

Months later he told me about what he wanted to do and I said I wished he would have because then we could have met sooner

i'd write back

"i think you're creepy for following me from book stack to stack. if i was into you i would be cruising you also, and would have said hello"

That sounds like a good way to get banned from the library.

And I'm being quite serious.

I agree. I'm sorry but I would not be flattered, I would be scared for my life. If some random guy followed me and then left me a note asking if I "lived around here" I would totally freak out.

I think taping the note to a book of Maplethorpe photos was a great touch. ..|
