Hi,

I am looking for a decent laptop brand for trading. My ideal laptop should be dependable, no crash. The laptop screen should not make my eyes tired. Any suggestion? I heard somethings about glossy screen is the best shitz. Long battery life and can withstand the bombarded impact of luggages. I travel a lot.

Thanks.

:P

I know  your pain. My current busted ass F&^%$$ comp is a HP. I wouldn't touch HP with a yard stick. :P

^ All the work of Carly Fiorina. HP was a good company until she got hold of it.

Apple laptops are good on all those counts, excellent build quality, long battery life, glossy (glass) screens which are bright and easy to clean. Go with a 13" MBP, imo. I think it's the best size, and it's the least expensive of their "pro" machines.

I use a 13" MacBook Pro. It is very light, sturdy, and has a light battery charger. I like the screen and it has a lighted keyboard. I think it's worth every penny.

Personally I use a 17" MBP. But I really like Sony Vaio laptops - great machines with good build quality. Cheaper option is Asus, which gets some of the highest user satisfaction results.

I have a 15 inch macbook pro and it is pretty amazing! It is a bit more expensive but I think it's a great investment plus there are apple store everywhere in the world so warranty is no problem

Acer. The timeline series. Really long battery life on them. Different sized models so you can choose which screen is most comfortable for your eyes and they are really well priced. I recommend one.

Whatever you do, stay away from HP. HP is awful. I had a laptop that had numerous recalls and after all of that, the thing got too hot and the soder to the mother board wound up melting and disconnecting. The chassis wasn't even aligned properly and the thing was pre-installed with Vista, which it couldn't handle. Their tech support is a fucking joke.

I also got a printer from them that flat out didnt print black ink. Even with a new ink cartridge. Total trash.

Im guessing the laptop you had was the DV series? Yeah they are pretty bad... I'd say the best are Toshiba.

432mm MacBook Pro. Delighted with the durability and functionality.

^ My 17" MBP was purchased June 2008 as well!

I'm a video editor, and today I worked onsite at a client's premises. I worked from the MBP with a bluetooth mouse, uncompressed HD footage coming from an external FireWire800 RAID drive, and a second 1920x1080 monitor for the client to watch. My iPhone was tethered to the Mac to provide internet access.

I carried the whole rig in a backpack, with the second monitor under my arm. Ten years ago the gear to do the same job would cost over a million dollars and fill a room.

I found myself sitting back a couple of times and being dazzled by how far we've come so fast. :-)

Haven't heard anything about the F series, nor have I seen it lol.. I know the DV series is recalled though.

And buying at staples is a rip off. Its best to go to that manufacturers website.

I just love to shop for computers! So far, you're just sticking with a brand? That sure makes things a lot easier, but if you want more details, I can get to that, too.

I'm unashamedly a Mac fan, and will recommended them to you. If you are comfortable with OS X, or even installing Windows yourself, then it should be fine. The internals of all their laptops is admittedly a generation behind (for political reasons more than anything else), but that shouldn't be a huge show-stopper. Knowing your use cases for this machine would help figure that out. I choose Macs for one basic reason: they're pretty. It goes a little deeper than that, but in the end, they function as a cohesive whole that is aesthetically pleasing better than any other brand I now of, and when I'm spending 8+ hours a day on it, it better look pretty. A second owner's perk is the unparalleled customer service. If you intend on keeping the machine past its warranty, AppleCare is a definite recommendation. I wouldn't recommend the 13" MBP over the regular MB, unless you like the metal look better, or need some extra durability; they are functionally equivalent.

At work, we're a completely Lenovo (coming from IBM) shop, and use mostly ThinkPads. They come close to looking perfect (as far as boring black work laptops can), and are very solid. If you're looking for a better Windows experience, that's my recommendation.

Glossy screens hurt my soul, but it's really a personal issue which is largely dependent on where you want to work with it. Forget about working near a window with that mirror! ;) On the other hand, there are some benefits to how the picture looks with the gloss. Again up to you, and your use cases.

As I've said, knowing more about what you want to use it for will be the best help!
