Quick question re my MacBook

When I spend too much time on the internetz, my MacBook gets hotter and hotter. Eventually I hear the CD drive ramp up which must be a cooling thingie.

I downloaded a widget and it seems the CPU gets to about 150F/60C ish.

Are things working OK?

Thank you for your support. :D

the fans

Also - check that you really terminate programs. Clicking the "close" button on a mac usually does not terminate them. But if you are just using the browser this should not be the cause.

OK, but it's a laptop and all enclosed-like.

All I run while I am surfing is Dashboard, Safari and sometimes Mail.

So do I get the spray and shove it in the CD slot? Or is 60C an acceptable temperature? Another part of the widget says my enclosure bottomside is only at 86F/30C.

My MacBook temp is 52℃ right now. It has been above 70℃ when doing GPU or CPU intensive work such as watching HDTV or converting many MP3s etc. The fan varies from 1999 rpm to 3000+ rpm, but both soon settle once the GPU/CPU intensive work is over.

I don't think it's much to worry about unless it's always at extreme temps, best do bursts of GPU/CPU intensive work. Just ensure that you place the MacBook on a table/flat surface and avoid having it on your lap.

Don't spray anything into/onto your MacBook/CD Drive!

The fan in the MacBook will regulate the temp. Also, the vents on the MacBook (Aliminum) are concealed underneath the keyboard and between the Screen and main body of the MacBook.

why not u have something that will keep the computer cool? I use one now. it keep my laptop cool

I'm going to have to agree, 60ºC is fine for medium usage on Mac Notebooks.

My MacBook Pro, when doing 3d things, will get up to 75-80ºC, and boy does it burn if you have it on your lap. Doing light web surfing, and nothing 3d it stays at a steady 38-40ºC.

You should grab a utility called SMCFanControl, just google it as I don't think I can post links yet. I have mine set to stay at about 3500rpm all the time (and when plugged in, it goes up to 4000/4500, I forget what I have it set to) It overrides the standard speed, but if the laptop starts to get hot, it will continue to increase. So there's no risk of damage.

Check it out, and even setting the Fans about 1000rpm faster than what they are at now, will make a huge difference. Makes mine drop from 55ºC to about 45ºC. :)

okay the problem is you dont allow air circulation ,place on a desk raise the top end by at least 5cm so air circulates more or download a fan control app It is not a laptop!
