Trivia via Amazon.com:
Although set in 1962, the song "You Don't Own Me" by 'Lesley Gore' is played at The Corny Collins Show, a song released in early-1964.

During try outs for the Corny Collins Show, Nadine is asked if she can "relate to Lesley Gore's music". In 1962 there was no Lesley Gore music to relate to-as Lesley wouldn't record her first single, "It's My Party", until March of 1963.

I often find myself humming It's My Party and Judy's Turn To Cry.

I was 13 when she had her first hit and watched her on Bandstand all the time.

Read the report of her coming out in the Advocate and later saw her interviewd by one of the entertainment shows.

She's now into very different music than in her young days naturally. k d lang kind of stuff.

Lesley Gore dead: 'It's My Party' singer dies of cancer aged 68

Singer-songwriter and actress Lesley Gore, who topped the charts in the Sixties with It's My Party, has died of cancer. She was 68.

Gore passed away at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, Lois Sasson, her partner of 33 years, has confirmed.

Paying tribute to her partner, Sasson called Gore a "wonderful human being".

RIP--my aunt went to Sarah Lawrence the same time she was there---my aunt tells me she was a big deal as she had her first hits while still in college. And she had lot's of hits. Remember hearing she was gay---thought it was cool as she was a teenage heartthrob.
RIP she was relatively young.
