It is a hungry machine that devours its own, it lies to sustain itself and will not hesitate to throw you or your loved one under the bus. A lot of white people who don't truly understand the mechanics of it retreat to the warm embrace because it feels familiar and BOY does it have a good talk game and make grand promises: I'll keep you safe. Yet here we are pretending to be shocked that cops' own bodycam footage contradicts their official account of the killing of an innocent white woman. By the by, didn't we sentence Justine Smollett to jail for lying on a police report? Anyway, I venture off to social media to be gaslit into trusting a system that, as we see once again, doesn't even work for the people it was designed and built for.


If anyone's curious, I don't share violence/death videos (and don't often care to watch them) but I can describe the footage: her car wasn't moving, she didn't drive towards him, he stepped in front of her vehicle.

Wait until the NRA and 2nd Amendment nuts find out that the latest person murdered by ICE, reported by DHS to be carrying a gun had a license to carry.

1. Turn over all records from Minnesota about welfare funds and assistance to the Somali day cares.
2. Get rid sanctuary cities in the State of Minnesota.
3. Turn over the voter records for the 2020 election. Trump recently claimed that he "won" Minnesota in 2016, 2020 and 2024, even though the State voted for Clinton, Biden and Biden in those elections.

This weekend on SNL, there was a skit that didn't get a lot of attention that was intended as a reminder that there are still different Americas that have a lot to do with who you love, what shade of brown you are and whether you're a woman. The mantra repeated in the skit was "This doesn't happen in America!".

The shooting of Pretti was preceded by an ICE agent shoving a woman to the ground. Pretti came to her aid and was sprayed in the face with a chemical irritant before he was murdered by ICE.

It shouldn't go unnoticed that almost every anti-ICE protest has a rainbow flag in crowd. It was a little over 50 years ago that vice cops routinely raided gay bars and arrested people for just being in a bar. Police in vice squads and private investigators hired by employers took down license plate numbers from car parked outside of gay bars, and employees were fired just for parking outside of a gay bar. Even just the suspicion of being gay or lesbian was grounds for termination.

What Trump and his far-right minions are doing, couching homophobia and white supremacy as being a rejection of "DEI", attacking universities under the guise of "anti-Semitism" and attacking the law firms that pursue lawsuits to protect civil liberties, should look familiar to anyone who knows history or knows anything about the 1910s, the 1930s and the 1950s. This time around we need to take off our rose-colored glasses off and recognize this as yet another resurgence of right-wing ideology, White Christian Nationalism and homophobia. We've been through this before and we cannot let it happen again.

This has happened many times in America in our past. If we don't fight back, it will all happen again.

It’s easy to see how Rittenhouse’s name would come up after the death of Alex Pretti as they both brought guns to chaotic situations and the results for each man were very different. But if we’re just considering how government forces interact with those who consistently break laws ( if they do in Minnesota) I believe a much better example would be Cliven Bundy and his standoff armed government agents. This is how much things have changed, I recall talking about that standoff with a friend of mine who was unhappy that federal forces backed down when guns we’re drawn and I told him that we don’t shoot people in this country because they disobey an order we take them to court.

Today, a little more than a decade later, we do shoot people for disobeying an order and Buddy’s cows still graze on government land for rent free.
