Hmm . . . I think the skin is always darker in that area, but maybe it shows up more because you're shaved. Although your skin is darker in that area than mine. I would tend to suggest trying an anti-fungal cream, but I wonder if it could be fungal discoloration when it's so even. Pubic areas do darken during puberty, but I don't know about the darkening spreading that far. I wouldn't worry direly. Maybe some docs on here know . . . I like this idea of playing doctor online cos I hate the doctor experience. They are mostly useless IMO. I know I'll get bashed for that, but . . .

It looks like discoloration from tinea cruris (aka jock itch).

^ i vaguely recall something that fungal infections are more frequent in people with diabetes? so that would make sense ..
but i never new that it could be such a big area..

does it hurt? If your chunky and your skin rubs together, it can become discoloured, from what I'v noticed on myself, but on the top of my legs where my theighs rub together is slightly discoloured, though only lightly!

OP was probably referring to acanthosis nigricans which is a skin condition that develops usually under the arms and in the groin. It's a change in pigmentation and a change in consistency of the skin. It's seen in people with certain hormonal imbalances- particuarly diabetes or thyroid disease.

The thing that is different between acanthosis and tinea is the margin. Tinea tends to follow a circular pattern and it often looks like a watermark with a dark, clearly defined edge. Acanthosis tends to be more diffuse and irreguarly shaped and doesn't have as clear of a margin.

it doesnt itch- so it isnt fungus. i dont have diabetes so acanthosis nigricans is ruled out because thats one of the symptoms.
i think im a little overweight, i weigh 180lbs and i'm 5'8. just need to loose 15 lbs and i'll be in tip top shape. other than that, i dont know why i have this discoloration.

thanks for all your input.

anymore diagnosis?

Acanthosis nigricans is not only a symptoms of diabetes mellitus, although it is most often associated with it. It can be associated with other hormone imbalances or certain cancers, such as adenocarcinomas and colon cancers, as well.

From the pic it does look like it could be acanthosis nigricans, especially since you say you have no itch associated with this patch of skin. Time to go see a doctor.

I know this discussion is a week old, but I have something to say.

A diagnosis for a skin condition is quite difficult over the internet. Doing a google search can yield frightening information that can turn even the most stable person to a blubbering hypochondriac.

Through the process of differential diagnosis, a doctor will consider a vast range of factors relating to your health before deducing (and even then, with caution) any relationships with hormone imbalances or even cancer.

The area you have shown is prone to that sort of discolouration. I wouldn't be too worried about it if I were you. I would only be more concerned if the discolouration had appeared suddenly, or if the discolouring was causing you any pain or discomfort.

In that case, I would advise you to visit your primary health doctor. If you want to instead, you can visit your local pharmacist. If the condition is serious the pharmacist will refer you to your doctor.

Also, keep an eye on the discolouration over the next few weeks and if you see it getting worse then that's another sign to go visit a doctor.

All in all, take care when approaching (or giving) health information on the internet. Suggestions (even if in passing) of chronic diseases like cancer should not be made lightly.

If you have any doubts, go see a health professional.
