Since I have little experience and most of the stuff on the Mac website is either not free or poorly described I am asking here :)

Some kind of picture manager for easy tasks like cropping and rotating pictures, maybe sorting/renaming them. I know that there is iPhoto but this program is a bit too complicated for an old guy (he nevers gets the differences between an album, an event and why there needs to be a 2nd place for the pictures after he sorted them on his harddrive .. ) :) It should NOT work with a database like iPhoto but rather directly manipulated the files on the harddrive. Bonus points if it can burn a gallery to a CD (simply the files to a cd not whatever iPhoto does when you do it  ).

Some VERY basic graphics editing software where it is easy to add some basic effects and text over a picture. I tested "drawIt" which seems to be what I am looking for, but it is not free. It may also be even more simple :)

Something that can make video CDs out of a bunch of pictures, or even better a kodak photo cd. as simple as this is possible again.

also are there some free games for the mac? stuff like skat or other cardgames? most what i found on apple.com was not for free ..

Thanks - I know where I can get commercial software, I am looking for free applications like in free beer :)

Preview can do a few of those things. Then how about standard Finder for sorting?

the guy is scanning a lot of pictures from old slides. sometimes the slides are in the wrong order, and so are the pictures. he then sees that, and needs to fix it by changing the filenames/numbers - something that takes him A LOT of time (at least now he knows how to do it). in iPhoto you can just change the order of the pics by dragging them - but once your burn the pics that change is lost because it's only saved in the database. so i was thinking of some kind of gallery manager that can do stuff like that, and if it only helps renaming them. almost every windows picture manager can do that :)
