Love you Brits and your Brit movies, But Damn. there are times when I cannot understand a thing being said. Do you Brits have any trouble understanding your puzzling dialects? Recently whenever I begin watching one of your movies I automatically put on subtitles. Works quite well. What ever happened to the likes of Lawrence Olivier, Alec Guiness, and James Mason? And Ian McKellan, and Robert Morley and Peter O'Toole. They never talked "funny".

This is very true. What is funnier is listening to an American trying to do a British accent.

Although at times I have been told I sound like Hugh Grant - I think they meant I am a dithering idiot.

and to answer your question I do sometimes struggle with some Scottish/Northern accents.

They speak another kind of English in Belize that is rather difficult to understand - I wonder if it is related to Jamaican, since they are both Caribbean.

We just saw Harry Potter last week-end at our local IMAX theater (in 3-D), and I had no trouble with any of the accents in that.

HEY! We are not that bad. Although I try to hide my Bostonian accent, I do say wicked quite often.

Random Thing: Although The Departed won the Oscar for best picture, a better "Boston crime drama" is Boondock Saints. Its a Boston cult film. William DeFoe plays a gay FBI agent in it as well and Sean Patrick Flannery is pretty hot. Actually, Ill go watch it now lol.
