Mac OS 10.8 Mountain Lion

Harumph, I downloaded Messages Beta but it requires Lion. I'm still on Snow Leopard cos I had problems with Lion. When I saw there was a Mountain Lion I was hoping it would be a faster, trimmer version of Lion, but it looks like it's just more features. I don't really need more features. I'd just like OS X to feel fast and nimble again.

I am in love with Mountain Lion! :) I have the messages beta...and loving it. I have a Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook and thankfully it will support Mountain Lion. However, this will be the final OSX release for my current MacBook. Need to get another one when they refresh the models. :) Super excited for the summer!

They better have a control to disable that notification center. That is imo one of the most annoying things about Windows, all those stupid messages that pop up in the corner.

I do not want random shit popping up at me when I'm trying to get something done.

I think the messages app would be a good addition though.

I'm in the same boat.

Like in iOS, the notifications panel is activated by the user: if you don't open it, it won't show itself.

Personally, I'm not overly impressed by anything I've seen on the announcement. This looks like a bundle of new apps added to Lion, not a new OS. Some of the new apps, like Messages, are cool. But new apps don't make a new OS.

That's why they rolled it out with no big reveal like they have in the past. Its just some new features built on Lion. Personally, I like the features they've added, and can see using these ones more than what they added in lion. (I haven't touched launchpad once)

There is speculation that this is the last release of OS X before OS 11. It makes sense when you look at how sparse the 'new' list is. We'll know soon enough too, since OS X is moving to a yearly release schedule like iOS.
