Hello fellas, I hope you can help me out.
First I must say I am technically illiterate, usually I am just baffled by computer stuff.
I have a MacBook running Mac XO S 10.4.11.
I needed some software to resize some pics I wanted to upload onto another site as the ones I took are too large, so I looked and downloaded Gimp (an edition fit for my system). When I tried to open the software, I got the message
"Failed to statr X11"
"Gimp.app requires Apple's X11"
So I found an apple X11 update and downloaded it. When I tried to open the download I got the message "Alert, this system does not need this update", when I click OK it just closes.
I just dont get it
The version of Gimp needs it to run but my Mac feels it doesnt.
So if any of you guys can help out with how I can get Gimp to run, or another software that I can download to resize my pics, I would much appreciate it it.

I wouldn't go for X11 apps. You need to install it from the OS X install Disk as it's optional. I have used Tiger and Leopard for many years now, and never used it.

Why not use Google Picasa? Picasa you can download for free. Or, just use iPhoto to resize the images - just use the export feature, select type and file size.
 
If you only need to resize images and do some light retouching work, I'd suggest Picasa too.

If you need a full, cheap image editing/paint program, I read that Pixelmator is quite good:

so, I downloaded picasa, but I dont have a google account (sorry but I am REALLY stupid when it comes to technology)
what do I do now?
 
Apple's OS actually comes with a software called "Preview". You can use it to resize, crop etc. It is actually very easy to use. It should be in the Applications folder for you to try. I dragged a photo out of iPhoto onto the desktop and then double-clicked the picture and the OS used Preview to open it. I was then able to resize, crop, adjust colors etc.
 
Steve, PM me if you'd like some personal assistance. There's no real need to use 3rd party software to resize images on a Mac!
