I was thinkin of buying a macbook pro, but I am not sure if I should get the mc700 or the mc724. I do plan on editing a lot of video. Mostly for private use.
What should I get? from what I can tell, the only differences are the Core i7 processor vs the Core i5, and 500gbs vs 320 gbs hard drive.

Any adivces?

I would recommend the core i7 as for vid edit work this is hopefully the new 2nd gen sandy bridge technology. It is a quad core with 8th Hyper threading , so this means more mutl tasking and more power. I have a macbook c2d 2.4 13" 320 GB HD its ok for what I do, electronic simulation of electronic boards . Hope it helps

Hard drives are an ancillary thing as it is always upgradable and you can attach an external one also. I would go for the corei7 proc also if your budget can afford it.

I'm looking at a new laptop (not a mac) also and i7 is one of my demands.

I've got the i7 with 4 gigs of RAM and a 500 GB hdd and this thing is a BEAST. You notice it just roaming around the OS, but you REALLY notice it when you do anything that involves video or audio heavy-lifting.

If you're doing video editing, the i7 is a GREAT choice.

Definitely upgrade the RAM to 8 gig if you are going to do heavy work like video editing.

You DO know that you could get the exact same hardware without the Apple logo on the back for up to $700 cheaper, right?

And? If you go that route you don't get OSX, an aluminum unibody or Apple's powerful multimedia software.
