Glendon Swift allegedly twice called Cantor's office in Glen Allen, Virginia, on October 27 and left voice mail threatening to rape the congressman's daughter and to kill his wife, according to a criminal complaint. The court document also charges Swift made anti-Semitic remarks about Cantor and said he would destroy him.
The complaint described the messages as "laden with the screaming and ranting of profanities." The caller did not identify himself.

The guy says he doesn't remember it. He says he'd had alot to drink that night and had done some drunk dialing.

Alcohol doesn't turn you into an anti semite. It just makes you comfy talking about it if you are. This race thing is just so sad in the USA right now.

This is not the first time someone has been arrested for threatening to kill Mr Cantor. In the past, a man made a youtube video of himself, and calling Cantor lucifer, and threatening to shoot him.

It isn't just about politics.

The US seems to be built on structural racism, race hatred and intolerance of other faiths and world cultures.

The FOX News Network's constant exploitation of white underclass anger and the ability for groups like the KKK and neo-nazis to disseminate their vile filth results in this kind of thinking.

Of course, even on this site, we've recently had one banned JUBBER posting crap when drunk and then apparently having no recollection of what they had been ranting about afterwards....so the drunk defense may be not so far out of line.

But as they say 'In Vino Veritas'.

There's better than 300,000,000 people in the US. If only 1% of the population are assholes, like this guy apparently was, then we have an awful lot of freaks running about.

I don't think you can come to any meaningful conclusion about our society as a whole, based on the actions of one disturbed individual.

I'm glad he's been caught and now maybe he'll get some help.

Well you just keep telling yourself that.

And then spend some time south of the Mason Dixon. Or in Indiana. Or Texas. Or some of the mid-west states.

Because yes. It is apparently possible to generalize.

And even in the subtlest of forms, like in the thread on Cain, the ingrained racism in the US emerges in so many ways, sometimes, do unexpectedly as to make one wonder if there is any hope at all.

I'll verify your remark about Texas. If you ain't Baptist and white, you might as well leave.

Violence is never the answer. Anyone who threatens or actually commits a violent act needs to be dealt with. The hateful rhetoric going on now needs to be dealt with also. Constantly demonizing each other just adds fuel to the fire.

The entire concept of demonizing quite literally belongs to organized religions.

They started the ball rolling....who knew that kings and tyrants and demagogues and sociopaths would be able to transfer it to the world of politics so easily?

The sad thing is, we're only at the start of the 2012 'Demonizing Season'.

No! No! No! No! No! - a thousand times No! [-X
Eric Cantor is a scumbag and one of the most hateful public figures around. It is my personal belief that Satan was present at the birth of Eric Cantor. HOWEVER, the last thing we need is political sainthood for Cantor. Visualize Eric Cantor Airport, Eric Cantor Boulevard, Eric Cantor Memorial Highway, etc.

People of Virginia... when you go to vote next year, remember all of the destruction from Hurricane Irene? Try to jog your memory. Eric Cantor, House Majority Leader, wanted to use FEMA funds as a bargaining chip (AKA blackmail). Eric Cantor doesn't give a flying fuck about your hardships relative to Hurricane Irene or anything else. The only thing Eric Cantor cares about is Eric Cantor. If you to re-elect Mr. Cantor, you deserve him and all the misfortune that may result.

I defer to words of wisdom from The Who:
We forsake you.
Gonna rape you.
Let's forget you better still... :D

I agree with you, Eric Cantor is one of the biggest pieces of shit in politics today. He's recklessly damaging the country and people's lives without any thought about it. He's in the hip pocket of corporations and billionaires. If anyone needs to go it's him, along with most all republicans. It's painful to see him speak as his arrogance and smugness is evident. How this creature got elected is a mystery.

However, I don't condone violence towards anyone.

If you want to get rid of him....don't retreat, reload! Take aim in the voting booth and wipe him off the face of the political map.

Thank you! Well said.:=D:

1% are assholes -- assholes who soak up the prosperity of our country so the rest of us never get improvement.

It's a good thing we can't come to a meaningful conclusion about our society based on the actions of one greedy percent.

We know who they are -- but can they be caught, and will they get some help?

Lone or small-group violence is never the answer -- sometimes, mass violence is.

What bothers me MOST about this story -- is that our elected officials have created this SPECIAL class for themselves -- where THREATENING is a CRIME...

And ERIC CANTOR doesn't support hate crime legislation for OTHER groups that MAY be subjected to threats and violence...

I remember a DECADE ago when I moved in with my partner -- WITHIN the FIRST week I was permanently living there -- someone left a MURDERED animal on our front porch -- We called the police, and the officer just shrugged and said that maybe another animal had killed and left it there accidentally...

:confused::confused::confused:

jesus

the us is "build on structural racism ........."

yeah

and it's Fox News fault

nice lame reference to a "banned JUBBER"

your structural bullshit has no basis in reality

and you're classless for referencing another JUBBER in such a fashion - one who is banned

oh for 2

batting .0000

do they baseball in Canada?

or is canada "structurally baseball-less"

Heck, the sheriff here considers threatening a crime for everyone. I don't think it's on the books, but he doesn't care. I saw a guy arrested for "verbal assault" . . . .

But the congresscritters do like to provide immunity for themselves.

genrally I would side with Rareboy, but I have to say that Chance and Jackroe are correct on this one.
The USA is not unique to the same type of people that live in Europe, Africa, South America or Asia.
History tells us that and Canada isn't immune either.
What I detect is a strong bigotry amongst some to the USA in general. But I hate to tell you everyone shit stinks no matter how much Glade you spray.
As a gay long hair leather satanic clad headbanger I can tell you that I have lived my entire life south of the Mason Dixon line and though there is a lot of ignorance I don't regret one minute of living here, it is not Cambodia or Bosnia, not since 1865.

Yeah, anyone that thinks that any of the issues mentioned are unique to America is blind.

^ No one says that they are unique.

But racism and religious intolerance are not part of the structural social fabric in many other western democratic countries, particularly those that have hate crime laws.

And Chance.

Once more.

Instead of parsing a response in order to detail my shortcomings, why don't you invest more than 30 seconds of your time and provide us with the proof that the assertion is incorrect. I suspect it is because you can't. That, as usual, you've got nothing of substance to add to the discussion. At least this time, though, you don't appear to have totally misread the post before you attacked.

I've lived and worked a lot of places in Canada and the US. I stand by my original posts.

would've been nice to exclude the "he's a piece of shit"

My Dad is a Licensed Master Plumber in the State of Texas.

Before the economy went into the toilet (pun intended) I was also a licensed Plumber.

I, like my Dad knows what it means to have a strong stomach.

When my Dad tells me, "Every time I see Eric Cantor on TV, or hear him speak I want to puke my guts out," I'm inclined to take his word at that.

It would be nice to exclude the "shit" statement, but there must be some truth behind it. :p

I'm just saying. ;)
